"Come on; we better go..." Gale finished unpacking and both her and Victoria went to go and meet their new horses.
They found a group of students out by the top paddock, which was behind the school. They were waiting for someone to come and register them.
"Hey, Toria!" A boy with pale blonde hair and brown eyes walked over.
"Hi, Jake," Victoria smiled.
"Gale, right?" He asked.
"Right. And, you're Jake Drake," Gale nodded.
"Correct-" Jake turned around to show the two girls another boy. "-This is Jackson Young. He's my roommate and he's new around here. By that I mean, he just moved to England, a couple weeks ago,"
"Howdy, girls," The boy tipped his cowboy hat and gave out a hand to shake. Gale shook his hand first, then Victoria.
"Let me guess, you're from America?" Gale laughed.
"Nashville, Tennessee to be exact," Jackson smiled. He had dirty-blonde hair and hazel eyes.
"Do you have a horse already or not?" Gale asked, politely.
"Yeah, I've got an American Quarter horse called Golden Zephyr but we all just call him Goldrush. He's a palomino and he's about 17 hands heigh," Jackson smiled again. "What about you?"
"I don't have one. I used to ride a horse called Dmitry at my old stables,"
"What type of horses was he?" Jackson asked. Gale smiled; He seemed nice. She could see Victoria and Jake behind Jackson making hearts with their hands. She internally rolled her eyes.
"He was a Gypsy Cob, about 15.3 hands heigh with a piebald coat..."
"Hello, students!" Someone shouted across to the children. They turned to see the Headmistress walked over to them, holding a clipboard. "My name is Headmistress Allen. I'm going to do the register. Okay, Victoria Bluewood?"
"Here, miss!" Victoria called.
"Jake Drake?"
"Here, miss!"
Headmistress Allen began to call out the names of all the children, finally getting to Gale.
"Gale Robins?"
"Here, miss!"
"Amber Sterling?"
"Here, miss!" Gale heard Amber call out from the crowd. She frowned. Headmistress Allen called out some more names before getting to Jackson's and finishing.
"Okay, class, follow me..." She lead them towards the paddock. As they walked there, Gale could see Amber turn around to smirk at her. She guessed that she'd heard her name in the register.
Gale looked into the paddock. It was filled with horses of all breeds. One caught Gale's eye in particular. It was an Anglo-Arab with a dark midnight-like coat. Gale crept forward to get a better look. The black Anglo-Arabian gelding swung his head back and forth. He throw his mane about, trotting up and down the paddock. He had an elegantly arched neck, refined face shape, a silky high held tail and glossy black coat. Gale watched the horse prance about with a smile on her face. He was very elegant; Gale guessed that was the Arab in him. However, he was also powerful looking, that of which he got from his Thoroughbred side. Gale went to stand beside Victoria, the whole time watching the gelding. He had short white socks, a real contrast to his pure black coat, and the smallest star she'd ever seen.
"Isn't he gorgeous, Toria?" Gale asked, in a hushed tone.
"Which one?" Her friend replied, looking into the paddock of horses.
"The black gelding..." Gale pointed him out.
"Okay, children. I will now assign all students, without their own steed, a new horse," Headmistress Allen told the pupils. She lifted her clipboard and began reading out different names.
"Victoria Bluewood, you have the dapple grey gelding. He's an Irish Draught and about 16.3 hands heigh," Headmistress Allen read off of the clip board.
"Wow!" Victoria smiled "Look, he must be that one!" She whispered, pointing to a dapple grey in the paddock.
"Jake Drake, you get the chestnut gelding. He's a Welsh section D and he's about 14.3hh," Headmistress Allen called. Jake looked into the paddock and smiled when he saw the chestnut gelding with white socks and a white blaze. It took a while for the headmistress to get to Gale name, as her last name was quite far down the alphabetical order.
"Gale Robins, you have the black gelding with the white socks. He's an Anglo-Arab and about 16.3 hands heigh..." Gale smiled with glee.
"Wow, he's a stunner," Jackson whispered.
"It is up to you to come up with a full name and shortened barn name for your own horse. If you wish, you can buy the horse you ride here during your stay. Otherwise, they technically belong to the school," Headmistress Allen explained. A younger woman, wearing riding clothes, walked up to her. She had ginger hair, tied back into a ponytail, and blue eyes. Her face was cover in freckles.
"Hello, class, my name is Miss McKenzie but I don't mind if you call me Carol," She smiled. "I'll be your teacher when it comes to horse training. You can ask me anything; I really don't mind. For now, though, class dismissed," Carol let everyone go. Most students began to go back to their rooms.
"Hi, Robins," Amber walked past, with the most evil smile she could possibly wear.
"Hi, Amber," Gale returned the glare.
"Nice pony, you've got there!" Amber laughed as she pointed at the black Anglo-Arab. She swayed out of sight. Before, Gale could say anything someone spoke up.
"Well, she sounded nice," Carol said, sarcastically.
"Yeah, that's Amber Sterling for you," Gale sighed.
"I think she's just jealous," Carol replied. "That Anglo-Arab could be great with good training. Plus, he's super handsome," Carol smiled. Gale smiled back. She liked this Carol McKenzie.
"Do you have a horse?" Gale asked.
"Yeah, he's over there," Carol pointed over to a different field. There was grey Andalusian gelding with a striking blaze, chewing on grass. He was about 15.2 hands heigh. "His name is Diego Volatré," Carol told Gale.
"Miss McKenzie, could I talk to you for a minute?" Asked Headmistress Allen.
"Sure," Carol nodded "Bye, uh... Gale, wasn't it?" She smiled and walked over to the headmistress.
"She seemed nice," Gale told the others.
"Yeah, I'm glad she's our teacher," Jake nodded "We could have gotten so much worse,"
"Hey, wanna go back and watch a film?" Victoria asked Gale.
"Yeah, let's go!" Her friend replied.
