Chapter 1

"Okay, that's the last of it." The middle age man, wearing a faded 'Bobby's Moving Service' tee, sets a large box on the living room floor. Maddie thanks the man, slapping a 10 dollar bill into his hand. He mutters a thank you, saunters back into his van, and hightails it out of there.

Sighing, Maddie plops down on the cold, bare floor. She has yet to unpack the couch, but the TV has already been set up. Grabbing the remote, she presses the "on" button and the television flickers to life. 

Two hours go by, and Maddie is finally done unpacking. The air in the house feels stale, so she grabs her sweater and decides to go for a walk. Walking down the pavement, she hums her favorite song, One Call Away. She passes Tolst Street, Greer Avenue, and finally Memory Lane- literally and figuratively. On Memory Lane is a large, maroon house, nestled between two large fountains. This mansion belongs to the Hylands, Maddie's sure of it. She remembers countless sleepovers and pillow fights, numerous secrets and tons of juicy gossip. But that was all before high school; the year Maddie's social life went down the drain.

The year was 2007, and Maddie was a sophomore. At this point, Dance Moms had been long gone, and it had simply become that forgotten reality show. However, Maddie was still friends with the cast: Chloe, Paige, Nia, Brooke, Kalani, and Kendall, even though the show was over. They were the inseparable group, the unbreakable group. They ruled the school.

Until that one day. No one would talk to Maddie and she didn't know why, until one girl came up to her and whispered, "You slut." Of course, Maddie had no idea what the girl was talking about, until she got home and logged on to the school website. Someone had hacked the website, and instead of the front page reading Thomas Graham High School, it read Maddie Ziegler slept with Mr.Hoofman! And Ms.Gargentalini! And Mr.Smith! None of this was true, but you know how high school is- high school is the mecca of lies.

So from then on, Maddie was all alone.

Or so she thought.
