The sport basketball is very simple. They are straightforward, however for younger players, some of these rules is easily forgotten. For example, the three-second rule addressing how long an offensive player is the perfect key for before clearing out.
Once you taught the rules of the game to your team there is one simple way to make sure your team does't forget them. You have to let your team tell you the rules so that you know that they understand. You could take some time from practice to quiz them on the rules. Make it fun! Additionally, you can teach reinforce the rules of the game during drills.
Before you can teach the rules to your team you have to know yourself...
THE RULES
Basketball is a team sport. Two teams with five players on each team. One team offense and the other team defense . The court is divided into two main sections by the mid-court line. If the offensive team puts the ball into play behind the mid-court line, they have ten seconds to get the ball over the mid-court line. If they don't make it, the defense team gets the ball. Once the offensive gets the ball over the mid-court line they have no longer possession of the ball. If this does happen the defensive team is possessed with the ball. The ball is moved down the court toward the basket by passing or dribbling the ball. The team who has the ball is called the offense, the team without the ball is called defense. They try to steal the ball from the offense team, make shots, steal and deflect the passes, and garner rebounds.
When a team makes a basket it is counted by 2 points. And the ball goes o the other team . If a basket is shot from the 3 -points arc it is worth 3 points. If a foul is called the free throw is worth 1 point. Fouling the shooter is more likely to be two or three free throws. If a team misses a shot it is live on being a rebound.
Each game is divided into sections. There are quarters in a basketball game. There are 4 quarters, when second quarter end that is called halftime. That is half of a basketball game[halftime]. At halftime the teams switch goals. In college each quarter is twenty minutes long. In high school or below the quarters are six-eight minutes long. In professional basketball the quarters are twelve minutes long. If the game is ended with a tie at the end of the fourth quarter there is an overtime. The overtime is an extra five minutes being played.
