Lynn wasn't much of a party girl. She preferred to stay at home and read a book, but her friends were a different story. Her best friend, Emily, lived for high school parties, she went to at least 1 every weekend. Somehow, she had convinced Lynn to attend one with her, "it'll be fun, Lynn. Do you even know what fun is?". Lynn knew what fun was, of course, but just not that kind of fun. She had read about them in books and, of course, seen them on tv. She had to admit, they did look interesting.
Emily brought clothes for Lynn to wear to the party, apparently "modern librarian chic has no place at this type of party". Lynn put on what her dear friend picked out for her and was quite confused.
"Is this a shirt?"
"Yes Lynn, it's called a crop top."
"This isn't a crop top, I own crop tops. This is a decorative sports bra."
"Don't be so so overdramatic Lynn, you look hot."
"I don't know Em, I'm quite cold right now."
"Oh shut up and wear a flannel with it or something".
So she did. Her red flannel made her feel more covered, but it was still way more revealing than anything she had worn before.
"Can we go now Lynn?"
"If we must"
Emily's boyfriend Scott was waiting out front to drive them to some random senior's house for the party.
"Hey babe, hey Lynn. Hope you guys don't mind, but my friend Nick is gonna be tagging along with us to the party."
Scott pointed to the guy sitting in the back seat. Nick did a little wave and kept strong eye contact with Lynn the whole time.
"Oh of course that's fine. I don't think Lynn will mind, do you Lynn"
"No, of course not"
Lynn did mind. She didn't know this guy who was literally staring into her soul. It didn't help that the guy was quite attractive. Lynn was starting to get self conscious.
"Well girls, let's hurry up. I wanna get there before the party ends"
Emily got in the front passenger seat which left Lynn sitting next to Nick in the back, who still hasn't stopped looking at her. Lynn wrapped her flannel around herself to hide some of the skin showing and got in the car.
The car ride was mostly silent except from the flirty whispers between the couple in the front. Scott's hand was firmly planted on Emily's upper thigh, his thumb skimming the hem of her skirt.
Meanwhile in the back, Lynn had pressed herself to the door, keeping space between herself and this strange man. He finally stopped looking at her and preoccupied himself by rolling a joint.
"Scott, do you or your lady want a blunt?"
'Oh so he does speak' Lynn thought to herself.
"Wait till we get to the party Nick"
"Fine whatever"
Nick looked out the window, and could see the faint reflection of Lynn's small frame. Scott and Emily went back to being an obnoxious couple in the front, leaving Lynn and Nick to themselves.
"So your name's Lynn right?"
"Yeah, and I would assume you're Nick"
"Your assumptions are correct."
Nick moved a little closer to Lynn so his knee touched hers. He leaned in and whispered into her ear
"I know you're trying to hide but it's not going to work. I've already seen you, and I like what I saw"
Lynn was starting to freak out on the inside. He liked what he saw? Does he think she's pretty?
"I'm not hiding, I'm just not keen on sitting next to people I don't know."
"Well let's get to know eachother."
