The rest of the day went by rather slowly, but I wasn't complaining since I was enjoying my book. The sound of the front door slamming shut and tires peeling out of the driveway broke me out of my trance from reading. Not even two minutes later Avery softly knocked on my door before coming into my room.
He smiled lightly as he stopped and stood at the doorway casually resting his hands inside the pockets of his black skinny jeans. "So hey. Mom got called into work and I'm sure dad won't be home till after dark so wanna go get dinner with me and Caden somewhere?"
Because my mom was a doctor at the hospital in the next town over she was almost always on call when she was home. I had forgotten that today was one of those days. "Sure. When are we leaving?"
"Caden will be here in about twenty minutes so be ready by then."
"Okay. Is it cool if I have Braden meet up with us?"
"Yeah that's fine. I haven't seen him in forever."
Braden was one out of two of my best friends. We had known each other since sixth grade and now we're both 18 and graduated from high school. Something I found awesome about Braden was the fact that he was actually a rising musician. He was known as SayWeCanFly and was great at writing some pretty amazing acoustic music. He's already been on a few small tours and is planning another one at the moment. He was a lot like me in personality. He was just a little taller than me and had long brown hair that he sometimes dyed black. Like me he had gauges, spider bites, and a nose ring. Overall he was a great guy to be around and I loved him as a best friend and sometimes even thought of him as another brother.
After sending him a quick text I picked out some clothes to throw on since I put on my sweats and a band tee when I got home earlier. Deciding on a black leather skater skirt and a plain black long sleeved crop top I quickly did my usual dark make-up and re-straightened my pink hair. Slipping on a pair of black and white converses I ran downstairs where Avery was waiting for me at the door.
Caden was already in the driveway in his shiny black mustang. A smile found its way to my lips as I realized I hadn't seen Caden in over a year. Caden Mills was my brother's best friend since high school. He was now 21 and a police officer on the local police department. He was a lot like my brother in many ways. He had longish dirty blonde hair, a septum and nose piercing, and the prettiest blue eyes I have ever seen. I would be lying if I said I didn't like him even a little bit. I've had a slight crush on him ever since he and Avery became friends back in high school. He was always super nice to me whenever he and Avery would hang out. So the slight whirl of butterflies that had taken flight in my stomach didn't surprise me at all.
Avery and I quickly got into Caden's car as it had started to rain. "Hey bro! Shit its been forever man. I'm glad that you're back home." Both of the guys did one of those guy hug things before Caden turned around to face me with a smile. "Its been awhile since I've seen you too Brine. How have you been?"
My face heated up as I smiled back softly. "I've been okay. Better now that Avery is home." My brother turned around and looked at me with a goofy smile before ruffling my hair with his hand. In return that was a nice little slap on the head that Avery received.
Caden just laughed at our playful banter as he drove out of the driveway and towards the diner in town. "Well that's good. Oh and I like the hair by the way. It really suits you." His little compliment left my cheeks to burn a pink almost the same color as my hair. We pulled into the diner about twenty minutes later and I could already see Braden's car. The three of us bolted from the car trying to avoid the down pour as much as possible.
