The breeze felt nice on my skin as a car passed by. I look at my phone for what seems like the hundredth time to observe that the time is 6:50 in the morning. When I look back up I see a familiar big black truck making its way towards me. It pulls over in front of me and the window rolls down to reveal my friend, Alex. "What up cutie need a ride" I hop in and point at my wrist. "You were supposed to be here 10 minutes ago" He sped off down the street towards school. "I know sorry, my alarm didn't go off so I woke up a bit late" Crossing my arms I face away from him pouting. "We better not be late to class or I'll have to kick your ass" His laugh almost put a smile on my face but I fought it. "You? Kick my ass? You are such a shortie, how are you supposed to kick my ass?" He was right, I was only 5 foot, and compared to his towering 6 feet I was really small. "The bigger they are the harder they fall" We stayed quiet except for our occasional singing along with the radio. Pulling into the school parking lot we grabbed our bags and bolted for the large building. We were running down the hall to our class avoiding any collisions with stragglers. "Hurry we only have one minute" I tried to keep up with his long strides but struggled horribly. Right as we got through the door the bell rang. "cutting it a little close aren't we?" We both turned to give our teacher a fake smile before settling in our seats at the back. Mine was right next to the window and Alex was to the right of me. The teacher started droning on about about some math equation but I could never pay attention in her class. What did catch my attention was whispering a few seats up. A tall tan girl with long red hair that dresses to impress talking with her friend, who's only difference is her black hair, were talking about the school dance that was coming up and wanting to ask "the cute blonde guy in the back of the class". I look down the row of desks and students and see that Alex is the only blonde guy. A small chuckle escapes me causing Alex to shoot me a curious glance. I lean over towards him and whisper, "if you're planning to go to the school dance I think I found someone that wants to ask you" As if she heard she turned around showing Alex an award winning smile. His signature smirk appeared as they locked eyes and in the matter of seconds he plants a kiss on my cheek and says, "don't worry babe you know I rather be with you." The red heads face completely fell only to replace her smile with daggers directed at me. I'm pretty sure the color drained from my face since I wasn't entirely sure what happened but a wink from Alex found its way toward me. He always did something like this whenever he found out a girl liked him or got all flirty. Only because he doesn't like wasting his time with mindless Barbie clones, which are the only girls ever attracted to him.
After a long class full of death stares, hateful whispering, and Alex being completely amused we went to our separate classes. We texted each other back and forth trying to keep one another awake through boring lectures, one of which I did nod off during at one point. We met back up at lunch. We always sat under the same tree everyday since it was somewhat away from all the people. I sat on the ground leaning my back against the trunk and he sat facing me. He rubbed his hands together and licked his lips. "What did you pack today?" Rummaging through my bag I pulled out a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and chips for him. "Who is my favorite shorty?" "Not me because my name isn't shorty" He took a bite of the sandwich then went searching in his bag. "Guess what I brought you?" "Could it be food? I would love for it to be edible." My jaw dropped when he pulled out a bag holding 3 pounds of gummy bears. I snatched it out of his hand and opened it so fast he didn't even have time to react. "I guess you like it" I pop a red one into my mouth and hug him. "Shut up you know I'm crazy about gummy bears" I release him and let him finish eating his food. "You spoil me Alex" "think of it as an apology for throwing you into that whole dance issue" I rolled my eyes at him. "Yeah you need to just learn to reject girls instead of using me as a scapegoat or else some crazy girl is gunna end up killing me and I'll have to come back to haunt you" "don't worry I would never let it get that far"Finally school was over so I headed toward the front of the school. My class was closer than Alex's so I sat on a cement bench and waited for him. After ten minutes he walked through the door talking with some guy I didn't recognize before going their separate ways. "Ready to go short stack?" "Can't you ever call me by my name? Or even my nick name instead of all these different names commenting on my height?" He bows as if I was royalty. "I'm so sorry princess Evangeline" Rolling my eyes I take his car keys out of his hand and race to his truck yelling "I get to drive the princess demands it!" Of course he nearly tackled me so he drove me home then headed to his own house saying he had to start some project for his science class. I was alone for about 3 hours so I cleaned the house and did a few other chores. The sound of the door startled me but a small voice told me it was my little brother. The seven year old ran into the kitchen with a big smile and hugged me. "Hey Evan I had such a good day and had lots of candy" I hugged him back and ruffled his mop of curly brown hair. "You better not tell mom Gabe or you won't see another piece for a month" "when is mom getting home?" As if she could sense his question my phone notified me that my mom had texted me. Traffic is insane. Be home late. I looked down at him and gave him a big smile. "She'll be home a little late, but that means we can eat whatever we want for dinner" He nearly jumped out of his shoes. "I want sghetti" I opened the pantry and started grabbing what I needed. "Alright spaghetti it is"
