Chapter One:
I sighed, as I drove down the empty road. The road was flanked with cows and pasture on either side.
"Ugh," I groaned in frustration as I got stuck behind a horse and buggy.
"God fucking dammit!" I screamed, not caring that my windows were open, "Not only am I forced to fucking work and live with my uncle, who lives in east bumfuck nowhere with the damned AMISH, but now I get stuck behind a fucking slow ass cart?!"
I rested my arm on the open windowsill of my car door, placing my head in my hand. Finally I got a passing zone.
"THANK FUCKING GOD!" I took the opportunity to hit the gas and speed pass. I looked at the driver in the buggy through my rearview mirror. He was young, but he was kinda cute. I shook my head, I have no time to be a cougar.
I finally got to Lancaster, PA. Pulling up to a barn, I got out. Slamming the door shut, I grumbled as I walked into the barn.
"LEVI!" I screamed.
A confused looking man with slightly poofy black hair, peered over the banister of the hay loft. He started down the stairs.
I held up my hand, "I don't care who you are. I owe you NO explanation. I am here to meet with my uncle."
I pushed past him and went upstairs. My uncle, Lebanon Levi, sat at his desk hands folded. He looked like he had been waiting patiently for me all day.
"Welcome Sophia," he said calmly. I threw myself into one of the chairs in front of his desk, placing my feet up on his desk, and leaning back.
I rolled my eyes, and took my phone out, checking my texts, "So why the hell am I here?"
"Please refrain from that language while you are staying in my community," he requested.
I snorted, "Please Levi, you are so English it's not even funny. I know you cuss, you think I don't watch your show?"
He shuffled some papers on his desk and sighed, "You are here because your father, my brother, thinks that you need some guidance."
"From an Amish thug?" I was highly amused that my father thought that Levi and his goons would be good role models for me.
He ignored my comment and continued talking, "You will be helping the women in the community and will be doing chores."
"Okay, stop," I said, taking my feet off the desk and standing up, hands on my hips, "One: I will not be treated like submissive Amish women doing chores out the ass and pleasing the men. Two: I will still live my English way of life. Three: My vulgar tongue will stay when I see fit. Four: If you need help with anything, better make it outside the house."
I sat back down and pulled out my phone and begun to play Angry Birds. Levi sighed. I heard footsteps behind me and my phone was snatched out of my hands.
"Oh fuck no."
I stood up quickly, facing the bastard. I snatched the gun out of his waistband. Gabbing the wrist of his hand that didn't hold my cell phone, I pulled it behind his back, my foot went into the back of his knee. In less than 30 seconds he was in a head lock, gun pressed against his head.
"Put. My. Phone. Down." I growled.
"Levi, call her off," Jolin said.
I clicked off the safety, pressing it to his head more, "Phone. Down, now."
Jolin placed my phone on my seat. I dropped him from the hold. He stood up, stretching his neck.
"Gun wasn't even chambered," he said.
I chambered it quickly, "you think I don't know a gun works?" I point the gun back in his face.
"Sophia, stop," Levi said.
I smirked at Jolin, and let go of the gun, letting it drop and hang from my finger. Jolin took it and re-holstered it.
"Well uncle, I bid you farewell. I am going to a hotel," I replied, standing up to leave.
"Hotel?" He asked, "why are you staying there?"
"Where else would I stay? You don't have an extra room," I said, crossing my arms.
He nodded, "you'll stay with Jolin."
My jaw dropped, "wait. What? Really? Isn't it bad enough that I'm here?"
"Levi, I'm not sure this is a good idea," Jolin started, but Levi cut him off with a look.
"She wishes to maintain an English lifestyle. I'd rather that be around you than exposing people in the Amish community. Mennonites will be more open to it."
I sighed and grumbled under my breath, "god dammit. Fine." I stomped down the stairs.
As I left the barn I bumped into a familiar face. It was the young guy with the buggy I had passed. I turned, walking backwards. He caught my eye and I smiled at him, biting my bottom lip before turning back around and climbing into my car to wait for Jolin so I could follow him home.
Jolin POV:
"Now," Levi said, "you know the rules. That is my niece. I'm placing her in your direct care, don't over step the lines."
"Of course Levi," I said. I was still in shock with the way she handled the gun and was able to maneuver around me so quickly.
"Keep a close eye on her, she tends to get into trouble. The way she handled that gun, we may use her for a couple jobs," Levi continued.
I nodded. The stairs creaked as Caleb walked into the hay loft.
"Is that a new girl?" He asked, leaning over bannister to watch as she got out her car, leaning against it to light a cigarette. Her shorts were short and so was her shirt. She had a nice body.
"Hey," Levi said, speaking in Dutch, "Eyes in your head. That's my niece. Jolin, take her home."
I nodded and left. Time to start my babysitting gig.
