Phil's POV
Dan had been away on holiday with his family in Florida for the last two weeks. It was strange not having anyone around to keep me company, aside from PJ or Chris occasionally dropping in. The apartment felt so big without Dan, like it was seconds away from swallowing me whole. I just had to keep telling myself that he would be back later today.
I had decided to take up residence in the creased part of the sofa, to keep it some company while Dan hadn't been spending 12 hours a day in it. After a few long minutes of mindlessly clicking through channel after channel, I tapped the pad of my index finger against the lock button of my iPhone. The illuminated screen revealed the time to be 6:05 PM, making it 1:05 PM in Florida. I composed a quick iMessage to send to Dan. He had wifi at the hotel, he'd get it, right?
"I miss the sound of your voice. And I miss the rush of your skin. And I miss the still of the silence. As you breathe out and I breathe in. x"
I placed my phone against the opaque black surface of the end table, making my way to sit infront of the television and hook Sonic up, something to keep me from staring at the phone screen until Dan replied. After several rounds, a soft ding resonated from the phone speaker. I jumped from my spot on the carpet, hurrying back to the table to retrieve the phone. I swiped my finger across the 'unlock' space, swiftly entering 1-2-2-9 as the passcode, which was Dan and I's anniversary date.
"Awwww, our song, kitten. I miss you loads. <3" I tapped the tips of my thumbs against the screen, formulating a reply as another white text bubble appeared.
"Door, sugar. x"
What was he talking about? Not even twenty seconds after I sent back a "What?" there was a light knocking at the front door of the apartment. I hurried myself to the door, undoing the two metallic locks, before throwing the door wide open.
Dan was standing at the opposite side of the threshold along with three medium sized suitcases. He looked perfect, with maybe just a sprinkle of exhaustion. His skin was tanned a coppery-gold colour, as if the sun just came straight down and kissed him. Together we looked like the complete opposite ends of the colour spectrum. He had his hair the adorable wavy way I loved and his cinnamon eyes were sparkling with pure felicity. I took the bags from his hands and carelessly strew them by the door. I thread my fingers through the familiar spaces between his, tugging on each of his appendages as I lead him to sit with me on the couch.
After an hour or so of watching Buffy episodes, I had encompassed the space around his waist with each of my arms. Using this leverage, I eased him into laying against my side and nuzzled my nose against the softness of his hair.
"You know, you never did finish 'our song', baby." I commented in a hushed tone.
He used this as his opportunity to connect his lips against the space just below my earlobe, after a few seconds he lowered his voice to a small whisper, speaking against the skin, "Everything works, love." Dan used his index finger to trace gentle patterns against the exposed skin of my hipbone, "Everything works in your arms."
