“Ruth!”
I was brought back to reality because of Helena’s voice.
“What is wrong with you, girl? You feeling alright?” she gave me a concerned look.
“Huh? Nothing…” I muttered as I looked at my watch. My eyes widened at the time. “Oh my, Helena. It’s four o’clock. We’ve got to get going. President Logan needs to meet us at the conference room, right?”
“Are you nuts? That’s tomorrow dear…you totally forgot..” Helena reminded me as she smirked.
Talk about being absent-minded. I really hate this. “But we still need to go back to the office…” I reasoned out.
“Hey, here comes your Boaz,” Helena cut me off. My eyes scanned the corner where she was looking. Indeed, Dylan was approaching our table, holding a file case on his left hand and a plate of clubhouse sandwich on another.
“Can I join you?” he asked as he flashed his winning smile.
“Oh yes, you can,” Helena offered the seat beside her but eventually she stood up.
I raised an eyebrow and asked, “Where are you going?”
“Back to the office. It’s okay, you have nothing else to do now since you already accomplished the blueprints. It’s my turn to check them out. So it’s fine with me if you’ll return by five,” Helena obviously formulated a reason for her to take an escapade so that she could leave me alone with Dylan. If you weren’t my boss I’ll probably strangle you, Helena. Ugh…
“Okay…” I uttered in an almost annoying tone. Now I’m stuck with him. So what now?
Why don’t you talk to him naturally? After all, he’s a close friend of yours, a voice whispered through my head.
Alright, whatever you say Lord. Just guard my heart. Because I don’t want to pick up pieces of it when it breaks after this conversation…
Stop the melancholy, my child…He reminded me.
“I’ve got to get going,” Helena told me as she hurriedly gave me a peck on the cheek and a quick wave.
“So what’s up? How are you?” Dylan asked me after Helena went out.
“I’m good. I just…finished the blueprints for the features page of the paper a while ago…” I answered him briefly.
“Awesome. I mean I wish I had your diligence,” he looked at me quickly before biting into his sandwich.
I chuckled, almost halfheartedly, “That wasn’t inborn, Dylan. I acquired it actually from Helena.”
He flashed his smile again. There was about a minute of silence, then he wiped his mouth and cleared his throat, “Hey um, I’ve been wanting to tell you about this yesterday, but because of the deadlines we weren’t able to meet at the lobby…”
“What is it?” I asked inquisitively as I kept my heart from pounding too loudly.
“I need your help…about Leila..” he explained.
