what we do to survive

I looked to the left and I looked to the right. We were surrounded by them. I was such an idiot to have Danny scream, but I mean I did want to live. I grabbed Danny by the hand and I ran towards the bar. He ran with me, I am glad he did because because I felt too numb to carry him. It was a wonder how I was able to carry myself.

I barged in the doors of the bar. I closed it shut it right behind me, and locked it. I heard a thud and the door was beginning to opening. I put all my weight on the door, and I heard another thud after another, the dead ones were putting to much weight on the door. Thud Thud Thud. I looked around frantically, and Danny was no where to be seen.

"Danny, Danny!" The hell, where is he? The door was becoming harder to keep close. I was giving up, I was still numb. Why don't I just give up, why don't I just stop? Giving up seemed like the easy way out, I then looked down at my holster and I looked at my pistol, maybe I can quickly let the door go and just shoot myself.

Then I thought of Danny, he's why I don't give up, he's why I don't stop.

"Danny, Danny I need you here!" I then slowly started to feel the numbness go. The adrenaline kicked in, and I was back at trying to save both Danny's and my butt. I looked around, the door was not going to be able to hold them any longer. I looked around for something to hold the door close, and at that moment I wanted to face palm myself. The god damn axe was outside. Great.

I then tried to calm myself down. Its cool, I will be able to take care of this. How many times have I been a situation like this, and How many times was I able to make it out in one piece with Danny? Always. And I sure as hell am not gonna die today.

I looked around again hoping to find something, anything to hold the door close. I then heard a crack form the door, and another. The door was breaking on me, and I don't know where Danny is.

"Danny I need you to come here to sissy!" I screamed. "Please" I whispered. I then saw Danny come around the corner of another door, an axe in his hands. It was smaller than the other, but still it was big for him. He ran quickly but carefully towards me with it. The thought of Danny falling and getting cut by the axe scared me. Danny came with this look of being scared, but again this time I saw this hard look. A look I have not seen from him. I couldn't describe it.

He handed me the axe and I put it on the handles of the doors. I then grabbed his arm and we ran back up stairs, he ran but not at the pace I wanted him to. He was running blindly, I wonder if he was feeling that numbness I had felt. He tripped several times, so I picked him up and ran. We made it into the room where our things were.

I let him go, and I started packing our things. I looked back at Danny and there he stood, he wasn't crying  he wasn't shaking or trembling. He just was, he was there looking out the window. It was like he wasn't even here, he was else where.

"Danny, I need you to start packing." He just stood there, still like nothing was happening, like I wasn't even here, like there were not a whole bunch of dead ones coming. I stopped packing, and went to him. I shook him. "Danny look at me, look at me!" He looked at me. "Hey buddy, I need you to start packing okay?" I said in a tone that made me seem unafraid and like everything in the world was alright. When in fact I was terrified, and I knew that nothing in the world was okay.

He started packing, and I was happy. He was moving slowly but I needed him to move faster. Hopefully the adrenaline would kick in and he would be ready for our escape. I then put the rest of my things away. I helped Danny put his stuff in, throwing in things not even sure if they were his. I took his hand and we went out to the hallway.

We went towards the stairs, I looked down them and I saw that the door was still closed, it was slowly breaking in pieces but none of them were in. I then put one foot down and was starting to walk down the stairs until I heard a loud thud and I saw the door come crashing down. In came the dead ones, I then retreated back into the hallway.

"Okay, its okay" I said more to myself than to Danny. I then quietly but quickly walked towards the back of the upper level, Danny right behind me. I walked towards the room I knew had a window that had a tree big enough for Danny and I to climb down. I then slowly began to open the door, and thats when I heard a groan. I looked towards the stairs and I saw one of the dead ones. I paused hoping that it would just go back down.

It looked to the left, and we quickly went inside the room and I closed the door slowly. Danny then walked over to the window, and he opened it. I walked over to him, and put my hand on his shoulder. I looked out the window. The sun blinding me for a second. I looked down below, I saw none of the dead ones. I then looked over towards the trees and I saw two of the dead ones walking around. I picked Danny up.

"Hey kiddo were going to have to climb down this tree, do you think we can do it?" He nodded his head up and down slowly. Okay he is not totally out of it. I then slowly placed him on one of the branches.

I then heard a thud. Damn it Damn it come on! The freaking dead one was outside. Hopefully its just that one.

I picked up Danny's bag and put the strap over my shoulder. I picked up my backpack and put it on. I then felt my self tumble back. What is wrong with me? I am getting weaker? Come on Ana.

I went on the branch, and I heard the door come crashing down. It was that one dead one. He's pretty strong to take down the door himself.

I closed the window and I picked Danny up with one of my hands. The boy was very skinny, a little too skinny. I need to get some meat on his bones.

I then used my other hand to lean against the tree. I went on one branch and the other. I then heard the window cracking.
