Chapter 2 - Lavender & Spring
"Noah...earth to Noah?" My eyes snapped up from an absorbing game of ' Temple Run', to meet an anxious pair belonging to Niall.
"Sorry man." I muttered clicking my iPhone to lock. Niall eyed me but questioned me no further. He wasn't blind. He'd noticed that I'd been acting 'different' all day. That was the great thing about Niall, he didn't push for answers - like the vast majority of people.
We both had a free period, and we were taking lunch outside the York Minster with a couple of other mates.
I hadn't seen Lily Lacey since form. Yet her captivating face had been burning a hole into my mind since. I jolted back to the conversation when I heard her name crop up into the lads' conversation.
"So what about the new girl...y'know...whatshername'?" Began Jace, a well-built, blonde guy - (the one all the girls love type).
"Lily Lacey." I blurted a little too quickly. I was thrown several questioning glances, a particularly pointed one from Niall.
"She's not bad." Commented Luca.
NOT BAD? My mind was screaming. I gaped at Luca. He must be crazy. Either that or hopelessly blind.
"She seems like a tough one to get into bed, mind you. I don't know if I can be bothered to try when I could screw Rachel Thomas ten times over meanwhile." Added Rayth - possibly the toughest and most disgraceful excuse for a human being I'd ever met. I wanted to throttle him. I felt Niall's hands ball into fists beside me. He despised Rayth, sexist comments and all. I knew that if Rayth ever said anything against his girlfriend, Iris, he would not be able to control himself. And trust me, you do not want to get on the wrong side of Rayth Summerson.
"And what about them eyes? Anyone else get slightly freaked out over the whole purple-eye thing?" Questioned Sam, who received several grunts in agreement. "I didn't even know you could get purple eyes in the first place!" He continued.
"Could be contacts..." Muttered Niall.
"Whatever it is, it's creepy as fuck." Concluded Jace. A few moments of thoughtful silence passed before Rayth broke it suddenly.
"She's fiesty though, I'll give her that. And it's nice to have a challenge every once in a while." He watched me carefully as if he was implying that I was a piece in this challenge of his. I was careful to make my facial expression indifferent. Rayth may be a total arse, but he sure as fuck knew how to pick up on things fast and stir.
Why did that make me feel suddenly extremely intimidated?
Lunch was over, and Niall and I were heading back to campus with his girlfriend, Iris, who we'd bumped into on the way. Iris was certainly easy on the eye, perhaps even moreso in Niall's eyes. He was completely infatuated with her. She had strawberry blonde, wild curls, which dusted below her shoulders in an almost elegant manor. She had soft brown eyes, set into a flawless, pale, freckled face. She, alike Niall, was sickeningly in love with life, and even more with Niall. They were quite literally a match made in heaven. It worked for me because I'd become close friends with her over the year they'd been together. As we headed back, they nattered happily to each other, their fingers tangled together whilst I walked wordlessly by their sides, deep in thought.
"So I asked Lily Lacey over Niall's tonight." Iris suddenly announced, causing her to immediately have my full attention. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, Niall, Iris and myself hung out over Niall's place - (Except for Fridays, when we went out into the city).
"Why's that?" I asked, trying to sound as casual as possible - and failing. Iris studied my face for a moment.
"Cause' I like her. She's different and interesting, which is unusual for the vast majority of YCSF. Is that a problem?" Her chocolate eyes burned into mine intently, forcing me to look away. I know that Iris had secretly pined for female company in our little 'hangouts'. It was plain as day. Plus the fact Niall accidentally told me...
