Dearest Daughter,
If you have received this letter, it means something horrible has happened to us. I am sorry, I am so sorry. You must follow the instructions in the journal that is in the package provided.
We love you so much,
Mum and Dad

I stared down at the note with a flurry of emotions, each fighting to overwhelm my thoughts. The last time I saw my parents was when we were eating breakfast together just this morning. Mum had her usual cup of tea with sugar, just like Gran Jackie would make. Dad would make his tea plain while he would say something sweet to Mum, like he did every morning. We then enjoyed savory bacon, scrambled eggs, and crunchy toast. The memory of my loving parents faded back to the cruel reality with the severity of the note I had just received with the package in the mail.
Follow the instructions in the journal...? I reread the line until it was burned into my retinas. 'That's it? That's your last wish?' The thought tore through my mind. 'Reading the journal is their last words to me... so what else am I supposed to do?' With no other ideas and no other instructions, I urgently called for a taxi.
"Where do ya wanna go, miss?" The taxi driver asked in a dull tone as I got in. Follow the instructions in the journal. I frantically ripped opened the package and rummaged through the miscellaneous contents, sliding aside a device that looked somewhat like one of those tempting big red buttons you are not allowed to press, desperately hoping to find the journal that would list more instructions of what to do. Moving aside a ring with three gems with different shades of blue, I finally found the sky colored journal lying at the bottom of the small box.
There was a brief pause as I rustled the book out, and I could tell the taxi driver was getting a little impatient with me. He spoke up again, a bit louder this time,
"Miss?" I frantically opened to the first page while replying,
"Yes sir, just a minute!" The taxi driver was now getting quite aggravated,
"Miss, I don't have all day! There are other customers that..." I wasn't listening, I was too busy scanning for the instructions. Luckily, there was a specific address on the first page to a certain red phone box on a street corner. The first set of instructions were listed below the address.

Step 1: Enter the phone box

I interrupted him as soon as my eyes met the address.
"Here! I wanna go here!" I leaned up and pressed the journal's page to the glass that separated the front seat from the backseat. He took a glance at the address, and took off down the street. I took a deep breath, closed the journal, set it aside, and started to go through the other objects in the package.
The next thing I saw in the box was a picture of my parents and I. This particular picture of us was one of my favorites.
We took this picture when we went to take our family photos last year. Mum suggested that we pose more casually than a typical family picture, because she wanted a more realistic looking portrayal of our family, rather than a cheesy awkward family photo no one would want to look at. Dad liked the idea, and he sat with his legs crossed in front of us and tried his best not to smile, but he couldn't stop smirking.
I liked the outfit mum had picked out, I think it made her look very sassy and confident. She wore her favorite shirt that was mauve purple with periwinkle blue patches. It was one of her favorite shirts because she wore it on one of her first official dates with dad. I wore my favorite leather jacket and tried my best tough-looking pose. Dad had on his favorite suit and wore his white converse. Mum said there was a time when he wouldn't wear anything else.
My heart ached to see them again. I knew they had put this picture in the package as if to say 'Everything will be alright. We'll be together again soon enough.' but the awful thought of my parents being in danger caused my mind to become overwhelmed with fear of the unknown, and I started to worry deeply about never seeing them again or what kind of torture they could be going through. I could tell these concepts were going to tear me apart. I had to focus. I thought to myself a solemn 'Allons-y' and quickly put the picture down and began rummage through the box before my tears would overtake me.
I managed to fit all of the contents of the small package into my purse, which included the note I had received in the mail, the bright red button, the ring with the three blue gems, among other things. After the items were secured, I pulled out my phone and tried to call my mum and dad. With no response, I decided to try phoning Granddad Pete and Gran Jackie, but once again, I had no luck. I knew the red phone box specified in the instrutions wasn't far, so I opened up the blue journal again to read and prepare for the next steps.
