Hi there! Thanks for checking out this story. It was a literature response to a text we read in class. This mini story/response focuses on events that can change you life. Hope you enjoy...

They never told me why. I asked them so many questions. I was battered and bruised and completely confused. It’s not like I was rich, or I was in a family of great importance. It was like picking up a Barbie doll (me) and putting it in your bag (the sack). I felt helpless. I couldn’t scream, or call for help – they had me exactly how they wanted.

I was in a deep sleep, as usual. They came in, and took me away, as silent as a mouse. I wasn’t sure what they did, until they woke me, to tie my hands together. At first my mind was fuzzy, so I obeyed. Then when I realised something wasn’t quite right, I fought. I fought hard. I was just innocent, poor me. I didn’t know what was going on. All I wanted was to be back in my mother’s arms. They riled me up, to make me fight harder. Then I was done. No more energy to fight. It was all planned. Like I knew! I was in a rage – they told me highly upsetting things.

Then I cleared my head. I had to play it smart. I had to out-trick them. They obviously knew the basics of a kidnapping. But the thing that concerned me the most was the threats to kill my family. Problem was, they wouldn’t believe me. I soon figured out they thought I was someone else. Someone with valuable information. They kept saying “Tell me! Now! Or I’ll do something you’ll regret!” However, the only information that seemed valuable to me was e=mc² for my science assignment. Clearly not what they wanted.

Luckily, I didn’t overestimate them. They were amateurs, I think. The warehouse had no cameras; and everyday for five minutes, I was alone, no one keeping watch. I was relieved to find that my acting all poor and helpless really worked. They were proud. Proud to have succeeded so far. I needed to get out fast. They were planning to torture information out of me. So I planned. Just to get out. I had no idea what lay beyond the darkness of the room. It was all I had. Improvisation was the only option.

My wrists were tied together. Not with the rope that gets tighter when you pull, thankfully. So I tried. Tried to free my hands. It took thirty minutes. Thirty long, long minutes. I was glad I didn’t give anything away. Now that my hands were free, I wriggled my feet, so I could easily slip out of the knots in those five minutes. I was tempted to get rid of the rough cloth around my mouth, and massage my sore cheeks. Then I waited. Waited for my chance to escape. They changed shifts. Scary man number three was on watch. I started to become anxious. Those five minutes weren’t coming. I kept waiting. And it all happened at once.

I slipped my feet out of the loose grasp, and pulled off the gag. Then I spent a whole minute trying to undo the tight knots around my calves and the chair. Two minutes. Not a flicker. Three minutes; my panic stage was at a steady rise. Four minutes, and the rope loosened. I slowly rose from the chair and tip-toed to the only door in the room. The door just had to creak when I opened it. I heard footsteps. All thoughts of a silent escape flew from my mind as I bolted from the door trying to get out of the warehouse. Then I heard gun shots. I went into the building joined to the warehouse. The front door was locked. I tried to kick down the door in desperation. I could hear bullets flying into the building, getting closer. My last resort was to try the window. Open. I hopped out and ran towards the trees. Then I kept running, for all I was worth.

Everything turned out alright. I called the police and my parents sorted everything that needed to be done. I even had to write a statement! In some ways, the unintended kidnapping changed my life. I am now a black belt in Taekwondo, and have mastered all other self defense arts. I go to schools and teach children about safety. It is now my job. I teach Kung Fu to teens and give talks to adults for awareness – kidnapping can happen to anyone at anytime. I know I had a more fortunate circumstance than others, but all the while I’m still glad the police caught those men. I’m also relieved that the cousin of some CEO of a company didn’t die.
