The day of the accident is a blur. I remember the car and the ice. I remember the screech of tires . I remember the darkness. I remember the smell of alcohol on the mans breath when he let over my face to see if he'd killed me. I remember falling to sleep while the man took his car and sped off to avoid being caught.

I awoke to bright flashing lights, sirens, people talking. A policeman was talking to policewoman in a hushed tone, as if trying to conceal something. They both kept glancing at me with sorrow in their eyes.

I tried to talk but no sound got through my lips. I wanted to move but I was scared by the flashing lights from the cars.

That's when it came back to me.
