Chapter 5
It seems the two took Braddock by surprise, losing him in no time. Adrenaline filled them both, and they stopped in an alleyway to wait the police out. Sherlock was doubled over, panting and wheezing. However, the stranger was leaned against the wall, breathing only a bit heavily. The only thing wrong was with his hair, which was all over his face.
The man shook his hair out of his eyes and straightened his bow tie with a smile.
"Think that makes you look good, do you?" Sherlock said with a chuckle.
"Yeah, actually." The man looked at him, his expression suggesting that Sherlock had stated the obvious.
Sherlock panted some more. "Interesting... Haircut."
The man glared at Sherlock. "Don't question me, I've seen more things than you have. I think I've earned the right to wear my hair any which way I please, thank you very much." He glanced around. "What are we doing, anyway?"
Sherlock got up and walked off to the main street. "I think it's about time I had a full conversation with you." Sherlock entered the Greek restaurant and waved down the waitress. "Table for two, please." They sat down and received two menus. Sherlock picked up one, but the other guy just drummed his fingers on the table and looked around nervously.
"I think it's only proper that I ask your name." Sherlock said, resting his elbow on the table, staring at the man.
"Hahaha, no." He laughed and grinned. "I don't do this anymore."
Sherlock rolled his eyes. "Come on. Tell me." The waitress came by and Sherlock ordered lamb shanks, while the stranger laughed and put his head into his hands.
"No. I said no. I'm not falling into this again." He just shook his head.
"Fine, I'll guess. Dean."
"N- Dean, really? Where did you get Dean from?"
"I don't know. Ummmmmm- MATT, IT'S MATT, ISN'T IT."
"YES!" He exclaimed.
"Really?" Sherlock looked extremely surprised.
"No."
"Shame. You look like a Matt."
"No I don't. Why?"
"Chin."
"OI. NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CHIN." He frowned. "It's The Doctor, by the way."
Sherlock laughed. "An actual NAME, please."
The Doctor looked exasperated, like it happened a lot. Way too much."The Doctor... Just... The Doctor."
Sherlock didn't seem convinced. "Sherlock Holmes." He held out his hand so that the Doctor could shake it, which he did. "Look, all I want to do is find out who murdered those people. I currently have NO leads whatsoever, and that's rare for me. I have a perfect track record, which I'd like to preserve. I know you know what happened. So once you tell me what happened, I'll leave you be."
The Doctor sighed. "Look, I'd tell you, but, A) you wouldn't believe me, and B) I have no idea."
"Heh. Lies." Sherlock wasn't convinced.
The waitress arrived and dropped off the lamb shanks. The Doctor looked up at her, and he was transfixed on her fiery red hair.
"I think you'll just think I'm crazy if I tell you," said The Doctor with a smile.
"You're not crazy. You're just eccentric." Sherlock smirked. "I'm pretty sure you have a vehicle somewhere, based on the key-like outline in that pocket of yours. Why don't you take me to it and we can resume the case."
A smile snuck across the Doctor's face. "You're brilliant, you know that?"
"Yes. No one every really stops telling me. Now, please inform me what the hell happened last night." They walked off, the lamb shanks not even touched. Sherlock handed the waitress a hundred pound note and said, "Keep the change. Now, Doctor, wherever shall we go next?"
The Doctor replied, "Follow me," and bolted off, with Sherlock in tow.
