I gasped for air as Jake and I ran into the science room on the top floor, locking the door behind us. I ran over to the security camera that was supposed to be hidden behind the desk and smashed it with a baseball that the teacher kept in her drawer. I quickly ran over to get a desk and pushed it against the door just to make sure it would stay shut. Before I could grab anything else Jake grabbed my arms and held me in place.

"Maddie, calm down. Take deep breaths." He said calmly.

I yanked my arms from his grip. "No, Jake! I won't calm down! I just watched my damn principal get shot I'm not about to calm down anytime soon!" I yelled in his face.

He kept his calm composure before taking my face in his and looking in my eyes. "I know, Mads but at least lower your voice some. We don't need to get caught."

I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, slowly letting it out through my mouth. I reopened my eyes to meet Jake's blue ones with my hazel ones.

"There, Maddie. It's okay. It's going to be okay." He said quietly, kissing my forehead and pulling me into a hug. I wrapped my arms tightly around him and instantly calmed down listening to his heartbeat.

After awhile we pulled back and Jake grabbed my hand, lacing his fingers through mine and pulling me to the storage closet. He opened the door and flipped the light switch on before walking over to the wall and pressing something on it. A secret door opened and he got down on his knees and crawled through the crawl space, motioning for me to follow him. We stood up once we were in the secret room and I looked around, noticing all the weapons that were hidden in there.

He walked over to the wall and grabbed a bag, stuffing a couple hand guns and knifes in it along with a huge machete and an AK-47.

I looked at him with wide eyes and he shrugged his shoulders. "I have no idea how they got military weapons but let's be thankful for me being close to the science teacher."

"When did he make this room?" I questioned.

"In the middle of this school year. After the bombing of that school in Massachusetts he decided that having an armory room should be enforced. Every classroom has one and I know exactly where to push to gain access to the room." He said, staring intently into my eyes. I blinked to cut off our staring contest and grabbed a bag and stuffed a couple shotguns and knives in it just in case I ever needed protection.

We crawled back out of the room and walked into the classroom to think of a game plan. As I was about say something, a gunshot rang throughout the building and Jake and I dropped to the ground, grabbing guns out of our bags. I looked over at Jake with my eyes a shade of panic, my breathing hitching in my throat.

He nodded his head once at me, signalling for us to leave the classroom. I took a deep breath before swinging the door open and looking both ways before darting down the hallway, Jake right behind me. We stopped at the end of the hallway and looked around the corner, quickly backing away when we saw a man in all black walking towards us. We silently backed in the closet that was beside us and closed the door, locking it. Without a word. we walked over to the ladder that was against the wall and climbed it, entering the air vent on the ceiling. Just as we closed it up the door was unlocked and opened, revealing the man we saw walking down the hall. He walked in and looked around the room, checking for any sign of life and walked out when he thought there was none.

We waited about five minutes before quietly opening the vent back up and climbing down the ladder to get out of the small room. We quietly opened up the door and looked both ways before turning right down the hallway and heading for the stairs to go down to the first floor and to the nurse's room, closing and locking the door behind us along with a chair covering the doorknob. I slowly slid down the door and let out a sigh of relief, Jake doing the same. I leaned my head over on his shoulder and he laid his head on mine.

I don't know how much time passed but when I looked up at the clock on the wall which read 12:47 AM. I looked over at Jake, whose eyes were closed, and nudged his shoulder to wake him up. He slowly slid his eyes open sleepily with a confused look on his face.

"It's 12:47. Let's go sleep on one of the beds." I said, standing up and offering him my hand to help him up.

We walked over to one of the beds and Jake crawled on, me following his lead. He wrapped his arms around me and I turned around to face him, looking in his eyes. I softly smiled at him, pushing a piece of hair out of his face. He smiled back at me and placed a kiss to my forehead.

"Goodnight, Maddie." He said, closing his eyes.

"Goodnight, Jake." I said before snuggling closer to his chest and letting my own eyes slide shut.
