Rhythm of Love- Chapter 1: The News (Ryley’s P.O.V.)
We all sat around our flat-screen TV; mesmerized by the flashing pictures on the screen. I quietly munched on my buttery popcorn; enjoying the salty taste.
“Luke,” Darth Vader breathed. “I’m your father.”
“So…” I started, just to be interrupted by my dad’s loud shushing. I smiled and looked over at him, sitting across the couch from me.
His mouth was slightly gaped open as he stared at the TV. I stifled a giggle as I tossed a piece of popcorn at his cheek, breaking his gaze and leaving a buttery spot where it had hit him. He looked at me, and childishly stuck out his tongue. I smiled and laid my head on his shoulder, after cleaning the butter off of his cheek with a napkin.
I was surprised my dad was still interested in Star Wars movies. He had watched each movie about 60 times before this; they are his absolute favorite movies of all times.
The doorbell rang, pulling me out of my thoughts. My mother, who had looked absolutely bored to death throughout the whole movie, paused it and stood up to answer the door. As soon as she left, my dad and I launched into our usual playful argument.
“Seriously! Why does Luke take advice from that Yoda dude?” I asked. “He is just some hairy, old, wrinkly troll with speech problems!”
“Well, he is extremely smart; his brain is probably twice the size of yours,” he joked. “And the force is great within him.” I smiled at his cheesy line.
“Still,” I countered. “He’s kinda’ creepy…”
He smiled, and was just about to say something against me, but we heard a loud wail coming from the entry way. We raced to the front door, and were shocked to find my mother sobbing in the arms of a police officer.
“Mr. Harrison,” the officer said as my mom hugged my father, still crying. “Your son, Matthew, is dead.”
