The Bad Dream

I wake up in a dark and desolate place to the sound of rain against wood. My head is pounding, my fingers are trembling and my heart beats faster then it ever have done before. I feel as if I'm in a bad dream. Like the ones I dream at night. I don't know how I got here, all I remember is coming home from work and then going straight to bed. Then maybe this is just a dream after all. But it feels so real.

I can feel the smell of the rotten wood flooding my nostrils. I can feel the panic growing inside of me but I try to stay calm. This is after all, just a bad dream. As my thoughts wander, my eyes grows a custom the darkness and I can see the outline of furniture. I look around furthermore and realize that I am in an old wooden cabin. I pull my exhausted body up from the floor and walk slowly over to the window, careful, as if I know something is going to happen.

The old window frame has gathered dust and the glass is so dirty that I can barely see whats on the other side. As I try to peek outside the window I feel a presence, like someone is watching me. I look over my shoulder to see if something is there but all I can see is darkness, darkness accompanied by emptiness.

I turn around and start to walk slowly towards the door but when I have almost reached it, I hear a loud bang coming from the outside, and my heart skips a beat. I stand still, frozen by fear, just the thought of what's on the other side sends a shiver down my spine. I start to back slowly away from the door and another loud bang, (louder then the one before) comes from the door and I can see how the old rusted hinges starts to come lose. I can feel the panic coming back, what should I do now?

I take a look around the room for a way out. Another bang comes from the door followed by a creepy moaning. My heart felt like it had stopped for a minute and then started beating again. Whatever it was, lurking behind that door, it sure didn't sound friendly. I start to frantically look around for a way to escape. But the cabin has nothing but four windows, some furniture, a fireplace and that infernal door.

The fourth bang was much louder then the ones before. It feels like I'm starting to lose my sanity. Then suddenly I hear footsteps from the outside. I stand completely still and dare not to even breath, and then the window to my right breaks with a loud crash that makes me lose my balance. The sound of pouring rain becomes even louder and begins to cause stress. I feel my pulse rising and I start to hyperventilate, then another window gets smashed. I'm starting to feel nauseous and ready to cry. And just when I'm about to break down in tears, the door is pummeled with a force that makes the door fall of its hinges, and in walks a man in a dripping wet raincoat, holding a sledgehammer. I cant hold it back anymore and collapse at the floor, sobbing like a frightened child.

The man walks slowly towards me with and stops right in front of me. He raises his sledge high in the air and throws a swing at me, and just as the sledge is about to hit me, I wake up with cold sweat.

I take a look at my clock by the nightstand and see that It's just 2:30 in the morning. I feel relieved, it was just another bad dream. I lean my head back on the pillow and try to go back to sleep, but then I feel something heavy at the foot of my bed. I sit up so I can see what it is and then I see it. I can feel the nausea coming back when I see that right by my feet lies a bloody sledgehammer, and a wet raincoat lays upon the floor.
