It was June 28, 2014. The last day of VidCon. I woke up and made my way to VidCon. Today is the day I wore all my Rhett and Link merch. VidCon opened late, and again, Rhett and Link were doing something first thing in the morning. At this point, Rhett and Link knew who I was. They recognized me since I've been so everything they'd done at VidCon the past two days. I made my way upstairs and to their panel. It was full with only around five empty rows out of like fourty rows.
I tried to sneak to the front like I did at the interview. Rhett and Link were talking. I ducked down so I couldn't disturb the people watching the panel. Rhett saw me. He stopped talking and just stared at me. I noticed and he said over the microphone, the whole room hearing, "Don't think I don't see you trying to sneak up here to the front!"
I froze. Everyone in the room laughed. I ducked down even more and slowly made my way to the back. I truly felt like one of their kids by that point. They joked with me.
Rhett and Link talked about the safety of YouTube and how the future of it would be. I don't exactly remember everything they said, but what I do remember is a bit inappropriate to talk about.
I left early to go get in line to meet them. I got in line four hours early. This was before the lottery system was in place. It was first come-first serve. My mom got me Oreo ice cream and I ate it while I waited. I put in my earbuds and listened to Rhett and Link's music. I was four hours early to the meetup. I looked around and saw so many GMM shirts and Rhett and Link shirts. There was even a girl dressed as the Wheel of Mythicality!
Stevie, Jen, and Eddie came out from behind the curtain and everyone in line screamed. I looked up and quickly unplugged my earbuds and snapped pictures of the crew. ( Pictures (Sorry they're blurry I was excited): https://instagram.com/p/pzMT1MLpAF/ and: https://instagram.com/p/pzMFLHrpPf/ )
Stevie came up to me and asked if I wanted to be in a Rhett and Link video. At this time, I was camera shy. I didn't like to be in videos l. I said no and hid behind my little brother. My dad pointed out the girl dressed as the Wheel. They talked to her.
Rhett and Link then came out. Everyone screamed louder than when the crew came out. I'm not a screamer, so I just stood there, super excited. I was about 20th in line. I waited patiently. When I was about to go, I was about second in line. I took off my hat which I didn't want in the picture. I took off my bag and badge. I had a notebook in my bag so I took it out and put it in my back pocket. It was a notebook for Rhett and Link- filled with exactly one hundred reasons why I thought they were awesome.
I turned around. The two people who were ahead of me had already gone as I was getting ready. Rhett was standing back- he's the shy type in person. Link was standing about three feet from me, smiling, looking in my eyes. He noticed all the merch I was wearing. I smiled and stepped forward. Link's extended his hand and I took it. We shook hands. Link asked how I was and I said I was good, but internally I was screaming. Link just let our hands drop. He didn't let go of my hand. We held hands for over a minute before he realized. I was melting the whole time.
Link brought me to Rhett. Eddie was recording the whole meetup.
"Hey! I remember you from yesterday! I signed your shoe!" Rhett exclaimed. He remembered me. I was so happy.
"Yeah!" I said to him. I extended my arm, which had a Rhett and Link logo bracelet on it, towards Link, and my bag towards Rhett.
"Can you sign these?" I asked them both. Rhett took the bag, not saying a word.
"Sure!" Link said. He moved my wrist in a painful way towards him so he could get a good angle to sign it at.
"Ow," I said.
"Sorry," Link said. He signed it on his face on the logo.
"Is it a watch?" Link asked, "Do we sell these?"
"No, but you should!" I said to him happily.
"You're right! We should!" Link said. Rhett came over and signed his face on the logo. Rhett had set my bag aside on the table.
