I woke up this morning. It was the sound of that dreaded clock that broke my slumber. Getting out of bed, I had no idea billions of other human beings were doing the same. Waking to the same sunset, Rising to the same ground, and possibly even hearing the same alarm. As we move, our heart rate increases, sending blood around through our veins at a much higher pace… feeding our muscles with precious oxygen… keeping us moving to the door of our bedrooms. We start our days, not knowing that the rhythm of the very thing keeping us alive… the sound of the blood rushing through us like a river of life… may be attracting predators at this very moment. They may be watching from the trees… or the woods… or even our own home. Waiting for the right moment to take the fluids running past our hearts and into our veins… and use it to satisfy their thirst. What are they? It doesn’t matter. What does matter is no one is truly safe… no one is truly alone… and no one truly owns what courses through their veins. The fact of the matter is… these creatures do. It is their right at birth to feed from your body… To steal and drink your precious life away. Your blood is theirs, and they can take it anytime they choose. But there are a few of these beings that are still part human. They still love us. They still eat our food. They still breed. But they still kill, and they still drink. We call these beings halfbreeds, and they are very much among us. And as I begin my day, I have no clue that the very people I know and love, are very diffent then how they appear. And soon… I shall be too.
