chapter one

"Evie!"

I groan as I sat up in bed. I really didn't feel like getting up. "Evie you awake yet?" Soda asks coming into my room giving me no privacy at all.

"Let me sleep soda! Its too early for this!" 

"no its not now get up before I make you lil'girl"

He then leaves. I get up and throw on a T-shirt with ripped jeans throwing on some converse. When I get down stairs I see the whole gang. There weren't many of us but I was happy that way. Because after my parents death my brothers and I didn't know what to do we were lost and confused the gang was too but together we got though it but it still hurts thinking bout it. There was Dallas, Steve, Johnny,and two bit. Plus my brothers Darry,soda,and ponyboy.

"Evie you hungry?"

I shake my head "no thanks I'm good"

Darry pokes his head from the kitchen "Evie come eat breakfast then Dallas will drop you off at school"

I quickly ate then grabbed my book bag "hey two you busy today? I need someone to watch Evie but i got work today and so does soda and Steve while pony and johnny are staying after school for a project, you think you can watch her?" Darry asked I dropped my book bag onto the floor in disbelief.

"I'm 12! I don't need a babysitter I can watch myself!"

Darry glanced at me "we're not discussing this"

"Don't worry dare I'll watch her"

I hurry out to Dallas car sliding into the passenger seat waiting for Dallas to hurry up after a couple minutes he comes and begins driving without talking. He only says one thing as we pull up to the school

"Don't talk to any boys because if they try something with you I'll have to beat them up,bye kid"

I hop out the car and began walking towards the front entrance of the middle school. "Move it grease!" Emily says pushing my making me drop my book sending them everywhere.

"Great"

I mutter beginning to pick them up afterwards I go to class early and you know just waited for class to begins.

During lunch I head out towards the quad to meet up with my friend Bunny. "Hey Evie have you talked to Jake?" She asked I look around til I spotted him near the exit.

"No"

I said frowning. She smirked "well your about too" I was about to ask when she yelled

"Jake get over here!"

I faced plan myself. Jake jogs over to us he smiles at me "don't" I say looking away from him.
I feel his arms wrap around me

"you must still be mad,cmon Evie it was just a dumb joke"

"I was so embarrassed Jake! Plus everyone was laughing at me for a whole week!"

I huffed in anger "Evie please I didn't even have anything to do with it"

"You knew"

"I didn't think they were serious!"

I get out of Jake arms and fold my arms across my chest. "I'll do anything!" Jake says

"Anything?"

I ask turning to look at him slightly. "Anything! You just name it and its yours!" He quickly said I smile a little
"I want you and me to hang out today after school but it gotta be fun and wild I think. But don't think I mean a date buddy that's thing we had is long gone now." I said fully facing him now he smiles widely.

"I'm gonna make tonight amazing! Its Friday so we can stay out and do whatever you want! Evie I can't wait"

"I might be a little late,can we meet at the park around five?"

He nods before he leaves he kisses my cheek making me kinda happy,tonight is gonna be fun and no one is gonna ruin it on my watch.

"How was school?"

Darry asks as I get in the car. "It was alright. Two bit still watching me?" I ask as Darry pull away from the school. He nods "Does he have too?" I ask

"Evie your too young to stay at home by yourself. If you want I can leave you guys money to go to the movies or something." I sigh
"no thanks but a lot of kids stay by themselves"
He rubs his head "Evie please I'm just doing what I think is best" I look out the window angry.
After a while we pull into the driveway and I get out quickly going inside to be greeted by and soda sitting on the couch.

"Hey princess"

Soda says getting up to hug me but instead I walk past him into the kitchen. "She mad again?" I hear soda ask Darry. He sighs

"Yeah this time its because I won't let her stay home by herself"

I lean against the kitchen wall to listen more. "She'll get over it. Hey Darry the boss is having me work late tonight, are you gonna be home?" Soda asks "No my buddy got me another job and he needs my help cooking for this party he's hosting gonna pay me by the hour so I might not be home until midnight"

"What time pony coming home?"

"He called and asked to stay over at his friends house so not until tomorrow." Darry said it was quiet for a minute. "What we gonna do about Evie?" Soda asks "I'm not sure. To be honest I'm worried to leave her with two bit over night because what if she has one of her nightmares we both know he doesn't know what to do when they happen. He's a good babysitter and all but not in those situations."
I hate when this kind of things happened because usually one of them takes time off of work to babysit even though I'm twelve.

"Sandy!"

Soda suddenly says I lean more against the wall to listen better I'm glad we have thin walls. "What about her?" Darry asks "I bet she would be more than happy to watch Evie!"

"You sure? Its kinda late notice soda"

"Darry sandy has been waiting to take our relationship to the next level. What's better than bonding with our sister!"

Wait relationship?

Why would him and sandy have a relationship? Okay I admit I don't like the idea of my brothers dating it messes up things actually whenever someone in the group dates someone.

"You sure about this soda? Remember Evie doesn't really do well around strangers" Darry said "well sandy won't be a stranger for long they both will have to get to know each other if me and sandy are gonna get married one day!" I bit my lip to keep what I was gonna say in. To remind you I was still listening without them knowing.
"Okay I guess your right, hey maybe I can introduce her to Carol too but that can wait til another day I guess"

Carol? Who's carol? And how come I don't even know whats going on in my own house anymore?!
