I liked the sound of writing this... so I did c:

What will happen when Cada Lightwood gets chosen to compete in the 74th Hunger Games? And what will she do when her best friend, her brother, her everything, Luke Brooks gets chosen with her? Will they survive the Hunger Games? Or will they fall victim like the others before them.

Cada's POV (Pronounced Cay-da)

"How many times was your name put in?" I asked Luke cautiously. He sighed, mumbling something I couldn't quite hear. It must be bad. "What?" "53 times." My heart sunk, he had it way worse than me. "I only have 28." He smiled. "You'll be right, it's me you should be worrying about." I laughed, engulfing him in a hug. "I just don't want to loose you like I lost Finn."

Finn was my 13 year old brother, he unfortunately was picked a couple of years back. I don't want to go into details but, he didn't last very long. "You won't loose me, well, not yet anyway." I pulled away, staring at him like he was mad. "You really think you're gonna be chosen Luke?" He shrugged. "I don't know-" "And you think you'll loose?" He went quiet. "I know 17 year olds have a better chance, but I don't know, I wouldn't be able to do it." I bit my lip, hugging him again. "It'll be fine, I promise."

We lined up, getting our fingers pricked, them collecting our blood, then got put into our year groups, boys and girls seperate. I saw my mother, her face was pale, she obviously didn't want another child to be lost to the games. I then caught Luke's gaze, his eyes were red, like he'd been crying. I had a strange feeling in my gut that something bad was about to happen, something very bad.

'May the odds be ever in your favour.' I mouthed, him suddenly cracking a smile. 'They're never in my favour.' He replied, making me even more on edge. It's like he was aching to be picked, he was sure to have jinxed himself by now. But Luke was like that, always ready and hunting for adventure, but when he found it, he'd run for the hills.

That there, was what I was worried about most.

The presenter of district 9 came forward, her capitol hair big and dyed purple. To me, everyone at the capitol were dolls, completely unaware of the real world, stuck in their own stupid little lives. Effie Trinket cleared her throat, tapping the microphone. "Welcome, welcome, welcome," She announced, the crowd not making a sound. "I'd like to welcome you all, to the reaping of district 9, for the 74th annual hunger games!" Everyone stayed quiet, too scared to speak.

Effie looked awkward on stage, like she was itching to go to a better district. I wouldn't blame her, all we do here is crop feilds, nothing special. "So, as always-" She regained her posture. "Ladies first." Luke stared at me, fear in his eyes. I just looked away, crossing my fingers, praying it wasn't me.

"Aha, here we are," She pulled out a tiny piece of paper from the round glass ball, sitting at the top of the stage. "Cada Lightwood." She said, her pink contact eyes gazing through the crowd.

My stomach dropped, everyone around me staring at me shocked. I was well known and liked around town, which probably made this worse. "Cada, come on dear, don't be shy." Effie said, holding out her hand, seeings as I was in the front of the group. I took a deep breath, brushing my brunette hair out of my eyes, stepping up onto stage, closing my eyes, wishing this was a dream.. no, a nightmare.

"Now for the boys." I heard the clinking of her heals on the wood, the rustling of the paper, everyone holding their breath. "Luke Brooks." I opened my eyes, tears welling up. "No." I muttered, seeing his shaking figure approaching the stage. "NO!" I screamed, the guards holding me back from running to him. Effie looked pleased. "Drama, I like it."

Luke stood next to me, his chest rattling violently. "Cada." He whispered, me staying quiet, too shocked to speak. "Cada, we're going to die." I closed my eyes again, not even wanting to think about it. I had experience with hunting, Luke with fighting, but we weren't prepared for this. But I guess this is what the game makers want, it always is.

The guards whisked us away, me hearing my mother screaming my name, Luke's family doing to same. We got thrown into sperate rooms, just sitting there, waiting for our families. I heard loud sobs echo through the hallway. It was Luke. He isn't one to get emotional, but he's lost so many friends, cousins and girlfriends to this he has a right to break down. Everyone does.

The door opened, mum running in and giving me a hug. We didn't say anything though, nothing at all. The only words that were spoken was when she was leaving, with me saying that I loved her, her saying it too. I heard Beau and Jai next door, literally screaming at the guards for extra minutes with their brother. I know what it feels like though, having a 1 in 24 chance of getting your brother back in one piece is daunting.

As they walked past, Jai caught my eye through the slit in the door. "Look after each other Cada." He said, getting pulled away. "I WILL!" I cried back, sinking to my knees, everything now feeling real. I was about to go into the Hunger Games with my best friend with 24 other teenagers, some of them training all ther lives for this moment, with only 1 coming out alive.

Either way, I was going to loose Luke, he was going to loose me. We were both going to die. The question is though, who's gonna be first.

How was that? Should I continue?
