I nuzzled closer to Aaron and he embraced me. The perfect moment just got even more perfect. Then, out of no where, an alarm sounded. Aaron looked about as startled as I, maybe even more. Guards ran into the garden, telling us to get to the safe room. There were rebels. Definitely southerners if they were this jumpy about them.
Aaron immediately bolted but I simply stood for a moment, staring blankly at the intruders climbing into the palace grounds. The guards gave me a little nudge towards Aaron, who was currently yelling at me to run. So I did.
I ran as fast as I could (in heels not to mention). Eventually, when we were almost to the safe room, I tripped on my shoes and dress. Aaron didn't notice, he just kept running into the safe room and once he was in it was too late for me. I was left abandoned, lying on the carpet.
I attempted to stand and get to a safe place but a felt a rough hand grab my arm and pull me backward. As I struggled to break free the grasp only became tighter. Soon enough I was off palace grounds and no one even knew. It was only the rebels and I, and they were most likely ready to kill me at a moments notice.

I opened my eyes to metal bars. A tall gangly man approached my enclosure and ran his fingers along the thick metal, holding me in. He smiled a wicked grin and stared me down, taking in my messy hair and ripped up dress.
I noticed my shoes were gone but that didn't matter. What mattered was that I was locked in a cage and covered with dirt. The man began laughing an evil cackle. To be honest he kind of scared me. It was even worse when he was talking.
"What do we have here? Hm?" He asked in a raspy and loud voice.
I just stared at him wide eyed but not showing my fear.
"Not a talker, eh?" He laughed at himself. "You will be my dear, you will be."
He chuckled and sat back down in his chair.
"By the way princess, the name's Avery." He looked expectantly at me. "And your name is?"
I cleared my throat and spoke with confidence. "Ambree. Ambree Leger."
His eyebrows raised. "A Leger I see. You know, I used to be real close with your dad."
"How?" Maybe if they were friends he would let me go!
"We were both guards in the palace. I assume you're hoping I'll let you go since I know your father but I'll need something from you first. Something important."
"What?" I hoped it wasn't too dangerous but I knew I could manage. I would have to.
"I need you to deliver this message to a friend of mine by the name of Jonah Parker. He's an eight, meaning the journey will be treacherous and I'm in no condition to do so." He gestured at the mangled flesh on his ankle. "You'll find him at the Red Diner Pub in the center of a little town nearby.
"Good luck, darling. I need you back here in perfect condition so I'm not suspected."
"Why did you come in with the rebels?" I asked him, a bit confused.
"That's classified, dear." He smirked.
I rolled my eyes. "Could you stop calling me that?"
He shook his head. "No can do, sugar."
I sighed, giving up. I needed rest anyways if I was to make it through my travels soon to come. I settled in the most comfortable spot I could find in my cell and sighed. I heard a small click come from Avery and noticed him loading a gun. I stayed silent as he stood, looking out of the building and into the night. A gun shot rang out.
Then the shouting began.
