“Vic,” his father said while entering his room.

Vic looked up from the lyrics he just wrote down. “Born in this world without a voice or say” it said. And that was exactly the way he felt. His whole life had been planned out already.

“Yes, father?”

“We need to talk.” He sat down next to Vic on the bed. Vic quickly shoved the lyrics under his pillow. His father didn’t notice.

“About what?”

“Vic, I’m not the youngest anymore,” his father sighed. “I’ve never wanted to push you, but don’t you think it’s about time for you to look for a princess? You need to get out more. You need to meet girls. Because when something happens to me, you need to be ready. And you can’t be ready without a queen by your side.”

Vic closed his eyes and thought about the consequences of this. As soon as he had found his princess, it’d be a guaranteed thing that he would become a king. Of course he had known this long before, but he didn’t know it’d be so soon. What if he didn’t want to become king? What if he just wanted to live life normal?

“Okay, father,” Vic replied slowly. He knew his duty. While his father walked out of the room, Vic was breaking apart.
