Shouting. Slurping sounds, and many, many loud conversations that mostly are of nothing of importance.
Some strange mix of a fight scene in a swamp and some person trying to go around an awkward topic multiplied by about 2,000? No, just an average lunch at a junior high school. I eat as quickly as I can, and then escape to the relative safety of the outdoor area. Only a few people are out yet.
What should I do? I start to head over to a group playing Frisbee when something catches my eye. There's a strange glowing blue light coming from a small group of boulders. I start to walk onward, but the light is too distracting.
Okay, only a few minutes.
"Hi!" I spin around, surprised. It's Jacob, a boy who is in some of my classes. "Ava, what were you looking at?"
He looks over my shoulder, and notices the blue light. His eyes widen. "Whoa. That's so weird." Jacob starts to walk towards the light.
"Wait!" I say, trying to step in front of him. He easily steps around me.
Now, some other kids have started to notice the blue light. They're creeping toward it, too.
I step in front of him again. "Please, Jacob. There's something wrong about this light..."
"Ava, its fine. Probably just a flashlight or something."
He walks around me again. "Oh, well." I mutter, and follow him.
We come upon the source of the light, wedged between two of the rocks. It is something about the size of my thumb, and the same color as the light it is emitting. It's some sort of figurine, I realize, and try to figure out its shape.
It's a dragon, sitting with its wings folded and its tail coiled around its legs.
"What..." Jacob says. He reaches to grab the figurine.
I shove him out of the way, but too late. Suddenly, both of us are connected to the statue with intense beams of light. Faintly, I hear screaming - mine? A tingling spreads through me, and the glow of the statue stops.
I slump to the ground, and the world goes dark.
