"Ow..." I say, putting my hand to my head. I have a horrible headache, but it fades within a few seconds. Opening my eyes, I look around. I'm in a totally different place. The land around me is heavily forested with pines and what look like aspen, and mountains rise up from the earth in all directions, like the spiny back of a huge creature. I am sitting on a medium-sized ledge that overlooks this entire view. There seems to be no way down.
Where am I?
Looking to my right, I see more mountains, more forest. To my left...
There is a ball of yellow-orange scales, breathing slowly. I freeze, then start to scramble away on my hands and knees, to the edge of the ledge.
From the coil of scales, a head rises. It is like a lizard's, or a snakes...
Or a dragon's.
I suddenly realize it. I am looking at a dragon.
"AH!" it yells, turning to run. It sees the ledge, and backs up as far away from me as it can.
Why would it be scared of me? I think. I'm just a human...
I look down at myself.
Scales.
Indigo scales, like the dragon's.
What has happened? But somehow, I know.
"It's all just a dream," I mutter. "I'll wake up right now... It's all just a dream... It's all just a dream..."
My mumbling is cut off by a shriek from the yellow-orange dragon across from me. It's looking down in horror at itself, still shrieking. "NO! NO! NO!" it screams.
I'm nervous about all of the noise it's creating. Who knows what dangers lurk in the forest.
I launch myself across the ledge, slamming myself into the dragon. It is cut off, but then screams again...
As it falls off of the edge of the cliff.
