I wasn't going. I'd rather jump into the lake and be eaten by the large squid than believe Henry... again. After my last class of the day, I met up with Grace- my best friend- and we headed towards the great hall for tea.
"Dude, do you know that I can finally try out for Slytherin beater? Victoire Hill's too worried about his O.W.Ls so the spot's open! I can't wait!" I grinned. Grace had dreamt about being Slytherin beater for most of her Hogwarts career. Now she finally had a shot."Hey!" She said suddenly. Her facial expression was one that I knew all too well- she was thinking of something.
"Oh no- definitely not, Grace!" I said, my eyes widening.
"I didn't even say anything!"
"But your face says it all!""Hey, that's not fair!"
"Grace, I'm not going to-""Just listen!" She said fiercely. She stopped walking and her piercing and cold blue eyes looked up at me.
I rolled my eyes and sighed."Go on."
Grinning, she then continued. "Why don't you try out for Ravenclaw chaser?"
I stared at her. "Are you kidding me?"
"No! We've played so much over the holidays and Annie Wu graduated last year. I'm sure you'll get the spot!"
I sighed as we resumed walking.
"I don't know..."
"MarMar..." I glared at the name she gave me in first year. "Please, just try? For me?" I gave into her elfish and childlike face that was pleading with me.
"Fine, I'll try." I said. As we reached the great hall, we met up with the two step brothers, Samuel and Jason Chesterfield. Jason was my friend and Sam... well, he was the awkward freeloader that we couldn't get rid of.
We all sat together on the Ravenclaw table and started pigging out on tea. Confused? Well, since the battle of Hogwarts, the teachers had decided that students could sit wherever they liked regardless of house. Only sitting together for Breakfast and Dinner was compulsory.
"Ancient Runes was so funny today!" He started saying. He spat out some cake and I made an expression of disgust- he got jam all over the hufflepuff crest on his robes too.
"What was so funny about it, Sam? It was another regular class." I replied. Hufflepuff's are usually awesome, but Sam annoyed me endlessly.
"Gosh! I was trying to start a conversation, Marlow! You're just always so grumpy!"
"Says the guy who just yelled and got irritated for no bloody reason whatsoever." step-brother, Jason, said while grinning. "You need to learn to shut up." He added, laughing lightly. I saw Grace smile at him. Her muffin that was usually gone in 10 seconds lay untouched on her plate.I frowned, picking up my own scone and eating it with the strawberry jam.
"So, what class do we have next?" I asked. I knew it was Transfiguration, but I could see that Sam was about to say something.
"Transfiguration." Jason replied. "Speaking of which, I heard that you told somebody that they needed help with their transfiguration skills." My cheeks reddened. I had a terrible tendency to say the worst possible things at the worst possible moments.
"It serves Henry right! He tried to trick me into going to the dungeons before dinner. I'm sure he just wanted to prank me." I said, grabbing for more scones.
"Well then, since you're free, do you guys want to go to quidditch pitch? We could all practice since Jason's on the team and Marlow and I want to try out." Grace said.
