Chapter 5

Niall steps out of the room for about five minutes, and when he comes back, he’s pushing a wheelchair.

“I thought you’d want this instead of crutches.” He says as he laughs.

“Thanks Niall,” I say as I blush a bit. Niall pushes the chair up to my bed, and I slide into it. He lifts my leg so it sits straight out in front of me.

“So,” he says as he pushes me out of the room, and into the hallway. “How are you feeling?”

“Actually, I’m hurt. Blake is gone. He shouldn’t have been the one who died. It should have been me. It was my fault. I’m the one who grabbed the wheel in the first place. I’m the one who told him to slam on the breaks. I should have gotten killed.” Tears flood my eyes. I sniffle a little.

“Don’t say that Cassie. He was the one who wouldn’t let you take over. He was the one that was drunk while driving. He was the one that didn’t have his seatbelt on. He was that one that slammed into the breaks. He was the one that almost killed you.” Niall says, sniffling a bit too.

“Oh my God. Are you crying?”

“No, it’s just that, I was thinking... it’s just scary that you could lose someone with the snap of your finger.” He says.

“Oh,” I say.

The elevator doors open up, and we walk out. Niall guides me to the door, and then he pushes it open. The light burns my eyes. I haven’t been outside for days. It smells like cherries and flowers outside.

“It’s so pretty!” I say.

“It is,” Niall says looking at me. He examines my face. His blue eyes meet mine, and I turn away. Niall pushes me to the nearest tree, where he takes a seat under the shade. I slip out of the chair so I can sit to him.

“So,” he says. “Tell me about yourself.”

“Well, what do you want to know?” I ask him.

“Tell me why you loved Blake.” He says.

I sigh as a tear falls down my face. “I was that weird new girl two years ago. Blake started talking to me. I guess he just opened up my eyes to tell me who I really was. He helped me with my um... problems, and I guess we just fit together.”

Niall nods.

“I know this is none of my business and all but, do you mind telling me what you meant by problems?” He asks. I open my mouth to answer, but before you know it, there’s a mob of screaming girls coming towards us.

“Great,” Niall says. “I can’t even have privacy at a hospital.” I slide back into my chair, and prop my leg up.

“Ready Cassie?” He asks me, as he puts his hands on the handle of the wheelchair.

“Not really.” I say as Niall pushes through all of the girls.
