It is said by some that on the big day
seeing a turtle will bring luck your way.
The young bride what delighted when she
saw a turtle emerge from beneath a tall tree.
She walked the aisle with greater confidence,
more excited, now, to marry her prince.
The ceremony took hardly any time at all,
and off to the reception they went, but soon came a call.
The meal to be served was not working out.
Salmon had come instead of the trout.
The salad was brown and the bread was stale.
The young bride's face, hearing this, went pale.
The dessert was mush, the ice had melted.
The flowers in the reception hall, wilted.
Holding back her swelling tears,
the young bride ignored what just entered her ears.
This was her special day and no one could stop it,
but it was turning into the worst, and nothing could top it.
"There will be no food tonight," the bride stood and said.
"There's been a slight mix-up, we'll have cake instead."
As the words left her mouth and she turned around
there was a quick boom and crash and the cake met the ground.
"No worries," the new husband quickly said
while his new wife looked at him like he was losing his head.
"There's just more time to get up and dance!"
The bride was comforted by his confidence.
Hand in hand they took the dance floor,
and soon people started following, more and more.
They all danced, their spirits getting higher,
but all of a sudden the speakers caught fire.
"I quit!" The bride yelled. "This is the worst day of my life!
This isn't how I imagined becoming a wife!"
Everyone soon left with nothing to say
but none would forget that dreadful day.
The husband and wife, alas, didn't last.
The wife wanted nothing to do with what had passed.
There is a moral to this story, believe it or not,
and it may not be what you would have thought.
The moral here is really quite clear,
and if you never do this then you shouldn't fear:
Never mistake a tortoise for a turtle.
If you do that then your luck will be curtal.
