The Chase
I raced through the forest, jumping over logs and pushing past branches, trying to outrun my persuaders. Dog’s howls ripped through the night and the sound of their blood thirsty howls drove me even faster and further into the Carobine Forest.
This Forest could be a dark one or a bright one; it was dangerous to be in at night, because of all the magical creatures and wild animals. It could be a haven though for animals. There are many plants in the forest that were said to be used by dark magicians to create evil potions and dark magic. Right now for me it was dark, sure it was night time but it was still evil.
Branches tore at my clothes and legs, threatening to tear open skin and clothes. Jumping over another log, I landed nimbly on my bare feet and kept running. Trying to find a path, that the riders on horses couldn’t follow.
Plants glowed from my touch and I cursed at myself for being so stupid. Some of the ferns in this forest light up from touch even if they already glowed. This would give my persuaders a clear path of where I was heading, so I veered to the left hoping to break out of the ferns. The slim that covered the ferns for protection stuck to my legs and it continued to glow on my legs.
“Crap” I whispered and kept running to the left out of the ferns.
Breaking out into the open area where I could run free again I sprinted, again trying to gain ground on my oppositions. I heard the thunder of hovels on the hard dirt ground close behind me and the excited barks of dogs that ripped through the night.
“Let the dogs chase her down! Take them off their chains!”There was a pause from the thunder of hovels. And more barks escaped from the dog’s muzzles. “If we can’t catch her they can. Let’s just hope that they don’t tear her to shreds when they get to her.”A slightly crazy voice shouted through the night and in shear panic I quickened my pace.
I pushed through a mass of bushes and ran straight into a clearing which was surrounded by high cliffs. I spun around in panic, I was trapped. If I went back I would run strait into the dogs. Thinking fast I sprinted to the right along the cliff line and just when I was emerging into the light again I slammed into somebody.
Losing my balance with the ground I fell, but I never touched the ground. A hand had caught my wrist before I had hit the ground and had pulled me back onto my feet. A hand still had hold of my arm when I looked up at the boy and say that he was the same age as me. His hazel eyes and mine blue locked glazes, both showing clear panic in our eyes and faces. His crazy hair stuck up in all directions and was the colour of dark chocolate.
The sounds of hooves were getting closer and closer, and his hazel eyes darted towards the bushes. And back to mine before he had grabbed my hand and we were running again. Racing through the forest we swerved to the left and bashed through a mass of bushes. Skidding into a clearing, we stood facing a twenty meter cliff. Chests heaving we stood utterly still staring at the wall, sounds of our persuaders just on the other side of the thick bushes. The cliff was completely bare and had an overhang towards the top making it impossible climb even for an expert. Furious howls were just outside the bushes, when he grabbed me by the shoulders and backed against the wall.
Swinging me around to face him, he placed a finger to his lip. I immediately shout my mouth knowing that I had to trust him with my life. Again swinging me around he wrapped his arms around my waist and backed even closer to the cliff. Backing right into the shadows of the under hang we stood facing the bushes and watched as dogs burst through the think leaves, howling success. A huge black and brown bit bull raced forward through the others and skidded to a standstill. Swinging his head around in confusion he raced around the clearing, kicking up leaf litter and dust. The other fifteen or something around that number of dogs stood still watching the huge bit bull and clearly leader of the pack raced around the clearing, nose flaring. A ginger pit bull started sniffing the ground and the others followed. Growls ripped from their throats and they stood facing each other. Panic ripped through my gut as the huge black and brown back barked and the others followed his lead .Four horse men and many other foot men burst through the bushes, all carrying blow guns and swords. The horse men unsaddled and jumped off the horses. They walked forward and each touched their pinkie finger on the left hand to their foreheads and bowled together, and at the end of the greeting bashed their heads together.
