I slowly came back to consciousness after what felt like minutes. My head was pounding and I felt awful. I pried my eyes open only to quickly close them once again. The light had been too bright for my eyes. I tried opening my eyes again, this time successfully.
I sat up, noticing that I was in an unfamiliar environment. I was in a small, cosy room. The walls were a cream color. It was soft and looked nice. I was laying on a comfortable twin sized bed. My feet reach the end of the small bed, just a little farther and my feet would be hanging over.
I lift the blanket that was on top of me and move so I'm sitting on the edge, my feet hitting the ground. I slowly stand up, wincing when the floor creaks. I take a few more steps and reach the door. I hesitantly reach for the knob and turn it.
My heart pounds, like it will jump right out of my chest at any moment. If something were to pop out, I'd probably have a heart attack. I open the door and peer out. It looks like I'm at the end of a long hallway. There were pictures on the wall leading to what I assumed were a set of stairs.
I step out of the room and creep down the hall quietly. Some spots on the floor were creaky so it was like making my way through a mine field. I got to the end of the hall and saw that I was right about stairs being there. I stood at the railing and looked down. I couldn't see anything from that angle so I get down on my hands and knees. The floor was wooden and was cold. I lean my head down, trying to see something.
I could see the edge of a table, so I assumed that I was looking at a kitchen. I heard footsteps and whipped my head around. There was no one there, so I turned back to the table. The footsteps stopped and I noticed a pair of combat boots next to the table. The person stood there for a long time.
I started to feel like I was regenerating. I immediately knew that I was feeding off him, gaining energy that I had lost. I knew that as soon as I was back at full energy, I would automatically stop feeding from his energy. Even though I knew that I would eventually stop stealing energy, I backed away. I didn't want to steal energy. I quickly went back to the room I was in before.
I was not staying here. I was not going to put anyone in danger. I looked around the room for a window but saw nothing. I stepped back into the hallway and tried to open another door. A couple were locked but I found one that opened.
I slowly opened the door and peered inside. It was a bathroom. I went inside and shut the door, locking it. I leaned against the door and stared at the window placed opposite of me.
I step towards the window and look out. I haven't seen the outside in forever. I lost count a long time ago. I'm not even sure how old I am. I was 15 when they put me in there.
It was bright outside but my eyes adjusted quickly. It looked like it was spring. It looked warm. I wanted to feel that warmth. I slide the window open and stick my hand out. I could feel the sun on my skin and I loved it. It felt nice.
My peaceful moment was ruined when I heard a shout, "She's gone! She's not in the room!" I start panicking, and try to climb out the window as quickly as I could. I heard the knob turning and jiggling, someone was trying to get in. They started pounding on the door, I could hear multiple people shouting now. They were all shouting at each other, trying to get me. The door started splintering and I was finally fully outside of the window.
I looked down, I was on the second story. If I jumped, I would most likely break something. If I got hurt then I would never get away. The door was breaking quickly and I didn't have much time. There was nowhere for me to go but down.
I had no choice but to jump and pray that I have a chance of getting away. The door wasn't going to hold for much longer. Just I had thought that, the door burst open. I panicked and without thinking, I jumped.
