The chilly London wind tumbled my long ombre hair around as I walked to Kims flat. I was wearing high waisted acid wash jeans, paired with black Doc Marten boots, a black crop top under a cropped leather biker jacket. I even let out my septum ring, one which I usually turned inside to hide for school and work. I looked badass.
I arrived at Kims flat and opened the door as if I was walking into my own appartment. She never locked her door.
"One day you're going to get robbed, Kim" I said as I took my jacket off. My cherry blossom and vine tattoo on my shoulder and clavicle was now exposed. Disclosure was blasting across the room.
"Hiiiiiiiiiiii! I'm half naked wait for me in the living room! I'll be out in a jiffy!" Kim said in her lovely Belfast accent.
Kim was a photographer, and her walls were filled with pictures she had taken over the past few years. It was lovely, she had real talent. I was studying her picturesque walls when Kim stumbled into the living room wearing a jean dress and heeled boots.
"I would've dressed up if I knew you were wearing a dress!" I said, feeling cheated.
"Oh shut up, Emilie. You look fine." Before I knew it, Kim grabbed my hand and dragged me out of her flat.
We were going to a local pub for a few pints, nothing special. Along the way we caught up on our uneventful day, complaining about out monotonous lives. We arrived, sat down at a booth, and immedietlly ordered drinks. Kim ordered a fancy girly drink while I settled for my usual Carlsberg.
"So Jamie has his photo exposition in a few weeks. I have a plus one for the opening event, and you should definitely join me".
"Now, Kim, you know why I am not going to be your plus one. That would be insanity."
Jamie William was a close photgrapher friend of Kims. He was also Alex's best friend. Oh, what a small world.
"Come on, Emilie! It's not a big deal. I don't know why you refuse to come. It's a beautiful exposition!"
"I'm sure it is, but I'm about one hundred and ten percent sure im not welcomed!" Kim didn't understand.
"Nonesense! Jamie explicitely told me to invite you."
Schocked, I almost spit out my sip of lager. "Funny, Kim. Now that is nonesense! Alex is going to be there, I'm not an idiot."
The exhibition was called Mustang Margaritas. It was a project Jamie and Alex created during their vacation on the American West coast. It really was not a place for me.
"Even if Alex is there, it really is no big deal, Em."
"Of course it's not a big deal. I just haven't talked to him for about three years, not to mention we ended really badly and he wouldn't want to se me." There was also the fact that I missed him terribly, and didn't want to subject myself to his presence, but never would I admit that in front of Kim. Kim had a big mouth. "And all the guys would be there too, Kevin, Sam, Ben! How awkward for me, and how awkward for them!"
"You were good friends," Kim said. "Besides, they might not recognize you."
"Oh yeah, because I changed so much!" I said sarcastically.
Kim smiled, "Dress up as a man. That way, I'll pretend you're my boyfriend and you can join me at the exhibition!"
I knew she was kidding around. "You're an idiot, Kim" I said, laughing along with her.
We continued arguing for a while, before changing the conversation to work, politics, art, music and whatever subject came through our minds. The night ended nicely, with Kim having one too many drinks. I walked her home as we jokingly sang along to Blurred Lines, by Robin Thicke, in the streets. Passerby's would look at us in utter confusion.
