I’m trapped. That’s what it feels like, being trapped inside your own body with no ability to move or talk or anything really. I don’t really know what happened, I just know that this morning I finally had enough strength to open my eyes for a quick second. I’m sure no one even realized that my eyes opened. I don’t know how I got to be this way or what happened after everything went black. I just assume I’m in the hospital because if this is heaven, it can’t be heaven. Maybe it’s hell. At least I would hope I would be able to move in heaven. I know that I don’t want to spend my eternity stuck like this, that’s for sure.
I can hear everything that’s going on, which is why I’m sure I’m in the hospital. I’m absolutely positive that my parents, my girlfriend, and my best friend are not all dead too, that would just be too ironic.
I opened my eyes again, when I opened them, I could see Saige. I knew she had been reading to me, but I hadn’t been sure if it was really her or just a dream until now.
I was actually able to keep my eyes open for quite some time, and I think Saige realized this because she quickly walked from the room and came back with, who I would assume to be was a nurse.
As the nurse shown a flashlight in my eyes, Saige grabbed my hand and held on to it for dear life. Her hand was very warm and soft, not really what I expected from her, but then again, I had never held her hand.
A few minutes later the nurse walked out of the room, Saige still grasping my hand.
Saige leaned down to my whisper in my ear, “Drew, I don’t know what I would do without you. Please live…”
She dropped my hand and started whipping at her own eyes. Was she just crying?
I blink, using all of my strength to try and get her attention. She sees me. I blink furiously trying to let her know I can hear her.
“Drew?! Can you hear me?” I blink.
“Oh my God! NURSE!” she screams. I flinch. I flinch! I can move!
The nurse comes rushing back into the room. “Andrew, if you can hear me blink once,” she commands. I blink. “Do you know where you are?” I blink again. “Do you know what happened?” I blink twice. I know what happened up until it went black. Tegan was driving down the road and we slid closer and closer to the curve of the road. We hit a patch of black ice and slid off the road! Is Tegan ok? Is Tegan alive? Suddenly I wish Tegan were standing next to me instead of Saige.
I try and speak. I try and ask my questions, but the nurse tells me to be quiet, that I shouldn’t try and talk yet, not until I’m ready. But I feel ready, I’m about to burst with questions. Is it possible to die due to the fact that you have so many questions to ask and you’re not allowed to ask them?
The next thing I know, Saige is holding my hand again. No, it’s not Saige, this hand is rougher, but I know it for sure. It has explored all of the parts of my body, which Saige’s hand hasn’t come close to doing. I look over just enough to see Tegan standing next to me, crying. Not surprising at all since her boyfriend probably came really close to dying and she was the cause of the accident that almost killed him, me.
Saige starts walking out of the room. Where is she going? Just then I notice her wrist. She starts to roll her long sleeve shirt up, and quickly changes her mind. Maybe I just imagined it, but I swore I just saw fresh cut marks on her wrist.
