Alone and Reckless

I woke up, staring at my watch and my surroundings as my brain spun. What the hell? Where was I? It was 4 am. I stood up, cursing as I stretched my cramped legs, and gazed into the darkness. I reached into my pocket for my phone. It was dead. What was going on?
Suddenly one word weaved it's way to the front of my mind and my world crashed back down.

Caleb.

I remembered slamming his apartment door, but after that it was blank. I walked along the street until I could make out the building that I was leaning against. Caleb's apartment. I must have fallen asleep after leaving. I felt a rush of fear as I thought of the fact that I could have been kidnapped or killed, or raped or mugged. That's just your paranoia talking Spence, I told myself. It was cold and there was only one place I could think of that would be open at that time: the club down the road.

As I approached, I could see the fluorescent lights flashing and hear the laughing and music pounding.
I handed my ID to the guy at the door, who nodded and frowned as he looked over me. "I know, I look small," I sighed. Walking in, I suddenly thought what the hell am I doing?... The atmosphere was overwhelming. I hate crowded places, and I didnt know anyone there.

I weaved my way through the mob of people dancing to the bar. Ordering a cocktail, it felt like one of those typical moments when the cute lonely girl sits at the bar and a boy with pretty eyes comes up etc etc. But there I was, my hair a mess, dark circles under my eyes and wearing my casual jeans and a jacket. What boy in their right minds would have fallen for me?

I sipped at the green drink in my hands cautiously, until I thought f*ck this and downed it in one. I leaned against the bar for support. I felt slightly light headed, but other than that it was fine. I ordered another cocktail and took it to the dance floor. Noone noticed me as I casually danced among the crowd. Wow, this is crazy, I thought, just a bit of alcohol and all my fear has gone. I wasn't overwhelmed by the noise or the people.
As the music got louder, I became more confident (also courtesy of a few more cocktails). This was perfect. I had no idea where I was or what time it was...and there was something bad happening, right? Something...someone...whatever. I didn't give a damn. This was the life I was living and it was f*cking amazing.
Unaware of what was going on around me, I jumped, spun and drank to my heart's content. I was dizzy and mad and I loved it.
I ordered yet another drink and as I moved back to the spotlight, I bumped in to a girl and her boyfriend. She gave me a glare, but what did I care? (A/N it wasn't meant to rhyme😂😂)
I was oblivious to the fact that everyone had been dancing with friends, not with messy hair and noone to keep them company. I was also oblivious to the fact that most people had left the dance floor at this point, and were staring at me.

Everyone except the girl who I'd bumped into earlier.

The next song came on and I stepped backwards only to comically bang my head against the girl. She turned, a malicious grin on her face.
"Someone's up for a dance off," she smirked.
I can't dance for hell, but I was drunk... so...
"Don't be so sure of yourself, sucker," I said arrogantly.
People had formed a circle around us. It was a proper formal event now. And everyone was chanting what seemed to be "Zara! Zara! Zara!"
Wow, she already had supporters, probably because she was wearing a strapless blue tight fitting dress and a faceful of make up.

I began "busting some moves", which I won't go into detail on, partly because I can't remember and partly because I don't want to put you through the mental images, but you can imagine...not that you'd want to.

She scoffed and did some stuff that was way, way cooler than anything I'd ever attempt. Especially while drunk.
Everyone was cheering and clapping, very different from the reaction they'd had to me.

Should I have stopped there? Probably. But I was always competitive and a sore loser. So I stalked back into the spotlight, many people whistling mockingly, and began doing some weird thing that involved spinning around. Anyhow, what had forgotten was the drink in my hands. It splashed all down Zara's dress and she looked up at me, scowling.

Her boyfriend tried to come up to me but Zara pushed him back. She then smiled in a sickly sweet way and said,"Oh, it doesn't matter, it was cheap anyway."

Being intoxicated, I had no clue she was being sarcastic, but the next thing I knew was something cold and wet dropping down my spine.

"Oops," she said,"I seemed to have spilled my drink.

What happened after that is blurry, but I seem to remember a really good punch at her nose and me crashing into the bodyguard guy at the door.

And then I woke up in a familiar bed.
