"How can you shake off something like that!?" A sudden burst of anger blurted itself out of me. With a sharp step forward, Salton took a shaky step back. "This man? He's fucking dead. He'll never go home to his family, he'll never get to do anything more than just lay there."

Salton fixed his slumped back posture and stood up straight, long arms crossed in front of his black coated chest. His expression told me he was hiding behind the poker face of his just by the way the corner of his lips pointed downwards more than usual. Why am I taking notice of such small things at such a time?

"You wanted him to feel the way you felt everyday, and he's feeling it now." His cold voice was nearly monotone.

"He's dead! He can't feel anything!" I took another sharp step forward. Salton stood his ground and kept in place.

" You couldn't go home to your family. All you did all day was generally just lay there, and do nothing. Now he can't, either." His words hit me hard, mostly because they were explaining the situation in a way I would've never thought of.

"So, you're saying we've basically been dead all this fucking time!?"

"In a way, yes. That's how your parents see it. That's how my mother sees it. they just think we past away." Salton explained, drops of melancholy lingering in his voice, a rare event so far. I glared at Salton with a look of awe, as I tried to search for something, anything, in his expression. The corners of his lips had returned to their post slightly farther up his face. His arms were still crossed, but his shoulders didn't look tense. His eyebrows were ashy planks on his forehead and his stance was shoulder width.

"We have to go." Salton walked past me with a quickened pace, scrounging around the desks.
