Dawn
My mom always told me to watch who you love. But I never wanted to listen to anything she had to say. I was young and dumb and I thought that he truly loved me. The first year of our relationship was perfect. Hell I thought he was perfect. Still my mom saw no good in him and I totally disagreed. That's when my mom got fed up and basically disowned me. I was totally fine with that because in my eyes she was wrong. I never saw what she saw or what she meant when she said "That boy is no good." or "He has the looks of a satanic snake in his eyes." I just thought she was just plain crazy. Until that one night our petty argument ended with me having a black eye. Of course he said he would never do it again like any other abusive man and practically begged me to stay with him. And I certainly believe him with my naïve ass. Ever since that day, I took beating after beating and still managed to never open my mouth about it. Some how there was no way I could leave this relationship to crumble into a million pieces. I even moved into his house because I felt it was my fault our relationship was in shambles. My supposed happy ending turned out to be a never ending nightmare.
Once again I screamed and cried as my boyfriend hit me once more. This was third time this week and my scars and bruises were getting harder and harder to cover. My velvet brown skin was all battered and bruised. This time I'd had enough, but all I could do was cry out for help even though I knew no was there. My hands were over my semi-protruding stomach "My baby! My baby! I'm pregnant! Please stop." I sulked trying to protect my unborn child. At once his swinging fists stopped and I heard his footsteps as he walked to the door and slammed it shut. My concern for my child was at it's highest point as my consciousness went in and out. This was never how I envisioned my life to turn out to be. But I knew God wouldn't leave me alone battered on this hardwood floor to die...alone.
