That night 3 months ago I vowed to myself I would never let him treat me like that again. So while he was at work, I packed all my things and moved as far as I could. It was no way I was going to live any longer in that lifestyle. I had too much going for myself. I had my degree to pursue my dream as a nurse, but I was too focused on living a life that wasn't meant for me. At this point, I was four months pregnant and once again
alone. I only had my mother and we barely could hold a conversation without arguing. She still held on to the fact that I made many mistakes while I was young. She won't get over the fact that I ran off with a "man" that she despised and I refused to admit that she was right all along.
The best job I could find out here that would hired pregnant women was at a small family owned restaurant which barely got many customers.
I was walking into my job to start my shift just like any other day.
"Good afternoon Ms. Sharon." I greeted my fellow co-worker. Ms. Sharon was an older woman and I looked to her as my grandmother. Ever since I started here, she kept me under her wing.
"Hey girly. How are you and my grand baby doing?" she gave me a hug as I approached the computer to clock in.
"We're doing fine." I smiled "I'll take section 4 today if you don't mind." She gave me a nod. I walked to my section and started to work.
Because I worked the night shift, not many people came in to eat but today was different. A big group of men and women walked in for what looked to be some dinner after a wild outing. Kind of what you do after you leave the club and head straight to Waffle House or to some late night food joint. They were all dressed in high end clothing . There was one guy that stood out to me. He was caramel colored, was inked , and had a beautiful smile. I had never seen anyone like him. He was very attractive and resembled Chris Brown.
I walked to the table to take their orders and his dark brown orbs immediately connected with mine. I looked down and started my typical introduction.
"Hi, my name is Dawn and I'll be your server this afternoon. What can I get you all to drink?" He decided to speak after taking a moment to look at the menu.
He looked at me, licked his lips in a hungrily way, and smiled.
"I'll take a rum & coke and your number." His comment made me blush. I cleared my throat never looking back up and continued to take orders, "I'll be back with those drinks for you all." I practically ran to the drink station where I found my closest friend standing.
"Hey Tiffany you think I look okay? Boogers? Fly away hairs? Anything in my teeth? Does my bump look too big?" I moved my body around frantically so she could check fast as she laughed.
"No girl. You have nothing. And your bump is barely noticeable. Why are you acting like a lunatic?"
"There's this fine ass nigga out there. And I don't want him to see me looking all busted." I gave a small laugh. "But never mind that I need to get there drinks back to them before they cause trouble because I'm taking too long. " I said walking back to the table slowly with the beverages in hand.
"Here you all go. I'll take those orders to the back. And your food should be out in the next 20-30 minutes." I rushed to the kitchen before the guy could talk.
About 25 minutes later, I had to bring the food to
them and they were finished not long after.
"I hope you all enjoyed your meal please come back and see us if you will." I smiled saying the corny rhyme before attempting to leave and before I could become Speedy Gonzalez again the guy grabbed my hand and said,
"My name is Audrey and here's my number. Give me a call and we can link up one day." He flashed his charming smirk once again prior to leaving me standing next to the table looking stupid in awe.
