Ravena nudged me awake, "morning dear" she said. I squinted in the light of our small fire, "we have to move, we must find those humans." I said saddling and climbing onto her back. I pointed the direction, and we flew off over the mountain. It was so dark here, the sky was a deep purple and everything was in shadow. It was as if there was no sun, but light still seemed to pass over like a very dim sun was still present. Forests seemed to cover everywhere and squirrels and wild boars roamed.
I saw some smoke rising from above the trees, "do you see that?" I asked Ravena, "yes..." She agreed. " I hope it's nothing tragic...that would be a bad ending for future heros..." I said. Ravena chuckled and dived towards an area a little bit away from the smoke. She landed gracefully and I swung myself down. "Remember to fix your hair." Ravena reminded me, I sighed but I took the bow out. I held it against my heart and then slid it into my pocket. I grabbed some long leaves and fashioned a leaf bandana like I did the first time, tying it over my ears. "Done." I said simply. Ravena nodded, "do be careful" I smirked, "I'm always careful!" And then ran off towards the smoke.
I arrived in a small town, a huge fire pit was in the middle and 17 people sat around it, warming their hands. I stood in the shadows waiting, for what I wasn't sure, but I was waiting for some sort of clue/sign as to when I should make my entrance. I took the time to look at each of the people around the fire, there was a Mage, he sat with a red headed girl in his lap. The man who was probably in charge sat next to a fat dwarf, so there are some left, and a girl with an owl perched on her shoulder. A man with a goatee sat next to a man with blue grey skin and a girl with long blonde hair, his arm around the girl's shoulders. A blonde scientist sat with another blonde man. A man who looked like a male dryad sat with a boy in a grey hoodie. Two men wearing gloves and stained clothes sat holding crowbars, ash and coal covering their faces. There were others too, they seemed to be the only civilization in the area, apart from that Newpool place. I took a breath and stepped out of the bushes, to them I looked like a poor girl, lost and hungry. The man I thought to be in charge jumped up, he ran over to me, the others eyes followed him. "Who are you?" He said in a deep voice. "My name is Lexi" I said quietly. "Where did you come from? No one else is in this world." He asked. "I don't know, I just woke up here. Sir? What's your name?" I asked. "My name is Xephos, but you can just call me Lewis." He said. I didn't understand their ways of names, Lewis was definitely not a nickname for Xephos! "Here, come sit by the fire with us. How old are you? You look about 15-16" he asked. "I'm 16..." I said. "Alright, well come warm up by the fire Lexi" he said leading me towards the crowed. "This is Lexi, she woke up in this world and doesn't know how she got here." He explained. Everyone looked very confused, probably just as confused as I felt. "Well! Say hi! Be friendly!" He said. There was a murmur of "hi" and "hello" from the group. Lewis sighed, "alright! Everyone back to your evening business, fire is over for tonight, just light your fireplaces!" Lewis directed everyone away from the fire and back to their cottages. He led me to his, inside sat the dwarf, looking downright confused at me. "Simon, this is Lexi. Lexi, this is Simon." Lewis introduced us. Simon looked at me, "who are you?" He asked. "I am your ally, dwarf." I said calmly. I would approach this calmly, just like Ravena would. "I know I'm short but how did you guess that?" He said. Lewis was listening to us, I looked up at him, "may I have a word with Simon alone? I know it's a lot to ask since I just arrived, but please?" I asked. Lewis looked at his friend and then nodded, walking out of the tent. I waited until I couldn't hear his breathing anymore to continue. "You are the last of your kind, yes?" I asked. "How did you...?" He asked confused. "I'm not what you think I am." I said, "promise you won't tell anyone." I said. He nodded, "promise" I slid the bandana off, uncovering my ears. "Oh my god...I thought they had all died out...I heard stories, legends..." He breathed. "Simon. We are the only ones left in this world who are not human." I said. Simone's face fell, "you mean...the legends are wrong...they won't return?" He asked. "No...maybe one day...far far far from today...but never in your lifetime." I said. I tied my bandana back on, "you can't tell anyone!" I warned, "it'll be our little secret Lexi" he laughed. I smiled for the first time and hugged him, he was friendly and kind, I haven't experienced someone like that in a very long time. I walked outside to find Lewis strolling back towards the tent, "you can come back now...thank you." I said. "We must find you somewhere to sleep, there is no room in here with us." Lewis explained. The two of us walked towards a tree, it was big but not huge, but there was a tree house up high in the branches. "Martyn!" Lewis yelled up. The blonde dryad man I had seen earlier stuck is head out, "yes Lewis?" He yelled, climbing down. "Is there room for one more up there? Could you take Lexi in?" He asked. "Sure! Toby doesn't sleep on his bed anyway...he insists on moping about and sleeping in the branches, I swear losing Kira has done a number on him." Martyn said shaking his head worriedly. "Well, come on up!" He said suddenly cheerful, I took his hand and we climbed up the ladder. Once up on the front platform I saw Lewis walk back to his cottage. Martyn led me inside, there were two beds, one surrounded by plants and another other on the opposite side of the room, barely touched. "Toby...we have a guest...come inside!" Martyn yelled out a window. A boy around my age crawled through the window, "I'm Toby...nice to meet you...now may I go back out?" He said sadly. Martyn shook his head, "this is Lexi, she is going to stay with us for a bit, she will become like your sister so be nice." Martyn said. I looked at Toby, he looked heartbroken, I knew what that felt like. "Hey, what's wrong?" I asked him sadly. "Why should I tell you anything?" He grumped. He turned and climbed out through the window, Martyn was about to say something but I held a finger to my lips and then climbed out after him. I could help him if he let me. I sat down next to Toby, "why'd you follow me?" He asked. "I want to know what's wrong, I know a broken heart when I see one." I said calmly. He sighed, he was giving in, "my love Kira is being held in safety in heaven while the war rages on...the angels won't let her live here so she is being kept safe above..." He cried. Tears were falling down his cheeks, "I'm sorry I don't understand? Would you mind explaining?" I asked, he retold the tale of Kira and her father Ridgedog. He said that was another world, that world is ruined now, thats why they are here. He wouldn't tell me where here was though. I saw something familiar in the boy, a similarity I couldn't put my finger on. I tried not to dwell on it to long, he seemed to be a little better since he had that off his chest, then I had to tell him part of my story, that way he would understand. "Toby...I understand how you feel" I said carefully. He turned a tear stained face towards me, "you could never know how I feel, how could you?" He said coldly. "I lost my love too, but unlike you, my love will never come back." I said sadly. Toby was silent, he looked at me as if he wanted me to continue. "My love Jason is dead, he died when I was away some time ago. I never got to tell him that I loved him before I left, and now I never can." I said, holding in the tears I could feel edging at my eyes. "Oh...I'm sorry Lexi..." He whispered. I smiled weakly at him, "I'm going to go inside now. I'll see you in the morning" I said, walking back across the branches and into the house. Martyn stood inside whispering something to a potted plant,he looked up abruptly when I climbed in. "Did you talk to Toby?" He asked, "yeah, we can relate pretty well to what he's feeling..." I said, thankfully Martyn didn't ask anything. We talked about something's and he told me his side of everything that had happened up until now. It was crazy, the had to move to this other dimension because theirs had been over run, and this girl Kira seemed to play a part in some people's lives, I'm sorry I never met her, she seemed like a kind hearted girl. After a while I noticed the same similarity about Toby, on Martyn, but I still couldn't place what it was. I decided to sleep on it and try to figure it out in a dream. I said goodnight and crawled into bed, wishing I had Ravena to lay against, not yet though. These are definetly the people I need, I must meet the rest if them tomorrow.
