"I see it, the great pale elk that will soon be my prize. I lay and wait, the air is still, no movement can be seen for many miles, but then I ready my bow with only the finest arrows that can pierce the bests thick hide with a single shot. My arrow is primed and ready to fire, then I let my fingered go, launching the arrow deep into the elk's throat. The silence vanishes as the elk screams louder than a mighty thunderstorm and as terrifying as a banshee's shriek while the elk perishes."
As dawn broke the next day, a local newspaper was quick to catch the hunter's handiwork. "November 24th 2013 North America a mysterious man was seen skinning a species of critically endangered albino elk by a ranger patrolling a camping area just off Knifebourne ridge and says that he is astonished that someone would hunt and kill such a magnificent animal." Is what the chief reporter of the Canadian news station wrote after the hunter's first elk kill in North America. In the small town of New Toronto that lies on the border of North America and Canada lives the hunter famous for killing endangered and critically endangered animals, anything from dale wolves to ereborian sea vipers but he has never been clearly caught in the act, making him impossible to be lawfully arrested for poaching.
The hunter, originally named Cedric by his widowed late mother, has not gone by that name for many years, now he simply goes by the name Papyrus the silent hunter, to the few who know him at all. Many of Papyrus' kills are done by bow and arrow but he is no stranger to using snares, bear traps, pits, poison laced bait and even jumping onto his prey from above. His most recent target was one of the very few great albino elk's left alive obviously it is now no longer alive but merely a dining room rug and a wall mounted head in his cabin in New Toronto. The rest of the elk either was sold to black market butchers for meat or sold at underground auctions for other hunters.
Papyrus lives a very risky life by making deals with the black market and illegally killing rare animals just for his own profit but this obviously does not stop his hunting efforts in any way. All of his equipment is professionally sharpened, repaired and repainted back to full proper hunting suitable condition after each 21st kill no matter the size or strength of the animals that are in the groups of 21.
As night fell Papyrus could hear the call of an injured animal coming from KnifeBourne forest and left to investigate what it was. The sound was unlike anything he'd ever heard before and as he drew closer, was shocked at the sight he found. The animal was a young wolf cub that seemed to have been mauled and abandon by its own pack, which is very unusual for wolves to do, especially to a cub. There were tracks leading deep into the forest, away from their territory, which again was very unusual for wolves. Papyrus was aware of all this and thought it was too suspicious to be normal wolf behaviour and followed the tracks deeper into the forest. At the end of the tracks Papyrus found 5 wolves feasting on a deer carcase warming with flies. After some thought, he decided that since they killed their cub he would hunt them instead. His bow was back at the cabin so this time, his bowie knife would have to do.
Papyrus knew that since he wasn't wearing cover scent it would be much easier for the Wolves to smell him coming but that since they were eating, the scent of blood and meat would draw them off guard. Coincidently enough there was a half split tree resting on another split tree that was just high enough for Papyrus to jump onto one of the wolves' back and stab its throat. He started making his ascension to the top of the trees, trying not to make a sound so the wolves don't notice him and flee or attack. At the top of where the two trees were intersecting, one of the wolves came close enough for Papyrus to kill and that he did. With a single dive-like leap Papyrus jumped onto one of the wolve's back, partially stunning it, then stabbed its throat killing the wolf and enraging the others. The pack Alpha charged at Papyrus and jumped over his head, but exposing its venerable underbelly at the same time. Papyrus saw his chance, grab the wolves' neck stopping the wolf from bitting him, stabbed its stomach and threw the wolf on the floor with knife imbedded in its flesh causing the rest of the 3 wolves running into the distance from the sight of their dead alpha.
Papyrus turned around as he heard someone scream out; "Ha caught you now filthy poacher!" when the figure finally came out of the shadows, it was the park ranger from Knifebourne ridge, when a hunter was seen skinning an albino elk. This time, the ranger has video proof of Papyrus poaching with his face in it so he can be arrested lawfully. Papyrus wasn't going to just hand himself over to the police so he started running straight to his cabin, but the ranger was prepared for this and shot Papyrus with a tranquiliser rifle and he fell flat on the ground almost instantly after being shot in the back. When the dart's effects wore off, Papyrus woke up in the back of a police car with his hands cuffed together and behind his back.
"I can't believe this is happening to me, why didn't I just get that licence, I will surely be imprisoned for the rest of my life."
"Guilty!"
"No, no, no don't do this"
"Cedric oakenshield for poaching hundreds of life threatened animals, you are sentenced to prison for life!"
Papyrus' nephew ran up to him.
"Uncle what can I do to help?"
"Only one thing, go to my cabin, take my bow and let the hunt live on."
And after that, for the rest of his days, Papyrus was doomed to imprisonment. His nephew found the bow and devoted his life to hunting, and he called him self. "Torvin, hunter of the silent forest."
