Emma and Killian walked into the hospital. Victor meeting them in the lobby. He took them directly to a room set up with the ultrasound machine. Baby fact posters were hanging on the walls.
Victor placed a cold gel on her stomach and she flinched at the temperature. Killian and Victor both chuckled and a dark image appeared on the screen.
"Emma, you are around seven weeks. Do you want to hear the heartbeat?" Victor asked.
She looked up at Killian and he was mesmerized by the screen. She nodded. Suddenly, there was a small sound. A little heartbeat. Tears swelled in her eyes and she gripped Killian's hand.
"Where is it?" She asked.
Victor pointed to something on the screen. It was smaller than a peanut. "I'll give you a moment. When I get back, I can tell you the due date."
The door shut and Killian wheeled the ultrasound machine closer to Emma.
"That's my baby." Emma whispered.
"It's so beautiful, Swan." Killian said with a laugh.
She looked up at him. "I know you aren't happy about this, but I have to keep it."
"I know. And we should talk about names. What do you want to name it if it's a boy?"
"Henry."
"And for a girl?"
"I don't know yet. You pick."
"Alyson. It's Irish." He explained.
She nodded and Victor walked back in the room. "Well, your baby's due date is going to be around February."
Emma looked up at Killian. "What would happen if the baby was born on Valentine's Day?"
Killian smiled a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. Emma noticed but didn't comment on it. She got dressed and they left the hospital.
"Do you mind dropping me off at the station? I'm gonna try to work today." Emma said.
Killian glanced at her. "Are you sure you're feeling up to it?"
"I'm fine, Killian. Just drop me off."
He sighed and nodded. He pulled up to the sheriff's station. He watched as she walked inside. She fought the urge to look back.
She walked in and Graham was playing darts. He turned his head and smiled as she sat down.
"Don't mind me. Just finish your game." She said with a smile.
He turned back to the dartboard and threw the last dart, with it landing in the center. She clapped and he bowed dramatically.
"What are you doing here?" He asked.
"I had my first doctor's appointment today. The baby is about seven weeks and is due sometime in February."
"How is Killian handling it?"
"He um, well, he's been acting really weird. I know he's not happy. I know he wants the child to be his."
"As long as you are happy, why do you care if he is or not?"
"It's just, Killian has been there for me since high school. I love him, and if he isn't happy, then everything seems wrong."
"As I've said before, Em. If he can't man up and be the person that you deserve, I'll be happy to help you out. Even if we are just friends."
"Thank you."
Emma did paperwork all day, and she was beginning to get restless. She was lost in her thoughts, and alone at the station. Graham had gotten a call about there being a bar fight at the Rabbit Hole, so he had left to go and check it out. She was spinning around in the chair at her desk.
After the long work day, instead of going home, Emma went to Granny's. Ruby was inside waiting tables.
"Hey, Em. What can I get you? Your usual?" Ruby asked.
"No, I actually need a room for the night." Emma said.
"Oh, sure. But, I thought you were staying with Killian. Is there a fight going on between you two?"
"Um, no. He's still upset about the baby."
Ruby nodded as she wrote Emma's name down on the check-in list.
"And I'd really appreciate it if you didn't tell Killian I was here, if he asks."
Ruby nodded and handed Emma a key. "Talk to him soon."
The blonde nodded and went up to room 1. She collapsed onto the bed and stared at the ceiling.
"What am I going to do?" She asked herself.
Killian searched for the diamond ring once he got home. He had no idea when Emma was going to get back, but she couldn't know about it. If he was going to propose, he needed the element of surprise. He looked all over the living room, but he still couldn't find the wedding ring. He glanced at the clock. 7:30. Emma should have been home by now.
A wave of fear flooded him. 'What if she found the ring? She knows that I was planning to ask her to marry me. What if she got scared and ran away? That's probably why she isn't home!'
He grabbed his leather jacket and left the house. He walked to Granny's and he saw through the glass, that Ruby and Granny were cleaning up. He knocked on the window and Ruby rushed over to him.
"Ruby, I need to know where Emma is. She didn't come home and I'm worried about her." Killian jumbled his words as he spoke.
"Sorry, I haven't talked to her today. Have you checked the docks?"
"No. I just wondered if you have seen her. I need to know that she's okay."
"I'm sure she is. For the most part." Ruby mumbled the last sentence.
"What is that supposed to mean?"
Ruby sighed. "She's scared. Scared that you don't want her to have this baby. She doesn't want you to leave or be mad at her."
"I could never be mad at Emma! I love her, and no matter what, I'll always be there for her. I'm pissed off that Neal did this to her, but I'm not mad at her. If you see her, can you tell her that?"
Ruby nodded. "I will."
Killian left the diner and went to the docks. He was going to turn the whole town upside down if it meant finding his love.
Just like I said under my other book, this is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!
I'm getting surgery tomorrow so I'll be taking a few days off from updating. I should be posting another update of this book tomorrow before it, but don't worry, cause I'm not abandoning this account.
