Chapter 1
Haichi Monozuka, 16 year old dueling queen.
Sleek black hair and bright green emerald eyes; if one stared too long they could easily get lost.
This is the story of her journey.
''Haichi!" A gruff voice yelled from behind me, I turned; my black hair making a cone around me and highlighting my eyes perfectly.
The voice belonged to my cousin, Joey Wheeler. He looked as if he had just ran one thousand miles, and for all I know he just might have.
''You'' He paused to pant. "Forgot your suitcase!" with one hand he held up a small bright green plaid suitcase with a white ribbon tied around the handle.
''Oh, thanks, Cus!'' I took it from his shaking hands and smiled, ''Don't know what id do without it..''
''I know, you're so forgetful, Haichi!" Joey, who had now recovered from his marathon, grinned and paused for a short breath ''Your flight leave soon?"
Today I was leaving for Duel Academy, all the accepted applicants were gathered around a secluded run way; in total there was only about 12 people here. Guess it was hard to get accepted.
Me? I only got in because of my Cuz, since he was friends with Yugi; might I add, the first King Of Games, he was able to put in some good words for me. And since I had pretty decent grades I got in without any flaws!
''Yeah, should be any second now'' I responded, flight attendants have been rushing too and fro lately and soon we should be able to hop on board and take our seats.
''I'mma miss you, Cuz, send tons of pictures! Okay?'' His ascent came on much thicker then usual, it made me smile.
''You bet!'' I hoisted the bag up over my shoulder in a delinquent fashion. I really was going to miss him, Joey was the only family I had left! Both my Mom and Dad 'left' when I was very young, leaving me with Joey and his family; if you ask me, he was just like my brother!
''All passengers traveling to Duel Island in first class, please board now.'' A mechanical female voice called over the intercom. It instantly made me sad. This was gong to be the longest time I've ever been away from home!
Joey gave me a bro hug, ''See you at Christmas, Cuz''
''Y-yeah, see you then. Joey must have noticed my depressed tone, and I guess the fact I was sniffling didn't help either.
''Don't tell me, the great Haichi Monozuka is crying?! Never thought id see the day!'' Joey snickered ''Don’t worry, it'll be okay''
''I-i know...see you at Christmas!'' He made my spirits rise yet again, his crude and harsh humor could place a smile on anyone’s face! All of a sudden Christmas didn't seem so far away! Giving one last wave goodbye to Joey, I boarded the vessel.
it wasn't large, but it did have plenty of room to spare with so few passengers. I was lucky enough to have gotten a window seat with nobody behind me so I was able to recline without the year of squishing someone.
I could also get some well needed shut eye since this flight was going to take at least 5 hours; and since there was going to be one hell of a time change between now and landing time, I was going to need all the sleep I could get!
''Excuse me miss, passport please.'' A slender woman walked up to my seat, one silky gloved hand extended to take the tiny booklet; I handed it to her without any fuss.
''Miss, Monozuka Haichi. Please enjoy your flight!'' She gave a copy paste smile and moved on to the next dueler beside me.
I watched, slightly amused as the black haired boy fumbled around his carry-on bag to find his ID.
As the flight attendant moved on I turned back to look out the window, Joey was there; along with Tea and a highly disguised Yugi Moto.
He had a gray GAP sweater on with the hood just barely covering his unique hair; and tinted shades covering most of his face. In spite of all the cover-up I could see through the poorly made disguise, it couldn’t be that much longer till his raging fans over-run this secret runway and rip off all his clothes.
Joey waved furiously and mouthed out the words 'Earth to Haichi' it made my train of thought crash and I finally responded. with a wide grin I waved black, trying to express my gratefulness to both Cuz and Yugi, if it weren't for them I would never be here.
Really was nice of them huh! Gosh I must be the luckiest gal in the world!
The plane jolted forward and started barreling down the paved path, I gasped and held the seat in front of me in a death grip; All these touchy goodbyes had made me forget just how scary lift off could be!
Seriously! The floor felt as if it get sucked off with all this pressure! We lurched to the side and I banged my head into the hard plastic wall.
''OW!!'' I yelped in pain and clutched the side of my head with both hands, letting go of the vacant seat in front of me. I now had a pounding headache that felt like a hammer cracking at my skull.
''Oh gosh...'' I let out a low moan and curled to a small ball beside the window, hair cascading down my shoulders; giving me a dark cocoon, isolating myself I silently sobbed.
It appears I had forgotten the first and most important thing about flying.
Always. Remember. Your. Seat belt.
