Sabre had always been different as a child. Instinctively knowing when someone was hurt or in danger. Or being extremely lucky in games to the point where none of the other kids wanted to play with her. Doing well in tests she never studied for. She learned from a young age that being different was not always a good thing and developed a coping mechanism; she might see the future but she didn’t have to always act on what she saw. That usually ended in being teased and after the last time sabre had no wish to be the focus of such torment again, they were still trying to get all the egg and spray paint off her car
Bayview high’s annual Halloween fair was always the talk of the town, students and faculty usually started preparations in mid August. Sabre surveyed the fairgrounds; trying to memorize the layout her tent. It would gather a fair amount of traffic. Nestled between a concession stand and the dunk tank. She turned and looked at the purple and red stripped creation before shaking her head and walking inside. Smiling at the finished effect of two straight weeks of hard work. It was like stepping into a fantasy, with all of the flowing material hanging from the roof, and pillows in every shade of purple making the tent look like the inside of a harem except for the table and two chairs in the middle of the room covered in rich royal purple velvet.
Breathe, it’s almost over,Sabre thought to herself. If it wasn’t for the fact that she lost the bet with her friends and had to take the fortunetellers booth she’d be home right now with a jar of peanut butter , a pack of double stuffed Oreos and a Harry Potter marathon. But Sabre was never one to back down even though she hated being in the spotlight. It was after all for a good cause. A cause close to her heart. With a deep breath she got started, making her way around the tent adding the final touches, incense , candles and the most important *eye rolling* crystal ball. Checking her watch Sabre noticed that she had ten minutes until the fair started. Giving the tent a onceover she was satisfied that everything was in place.” Crap” well not everything, hurriedly she changed out of her hoodie and jeans and into her gypsy costume.
*Sabre’s POV*
Deep breath, okay.Just remember it’s to help orphaned kids. Making my way to the front of the tent I opened the flaps to signal I was open for business. It was going to be a good year for the fair if these early crowds were to be judged by. Looking around I noticed my friends now arriving, the fair was held in the school parking lot and the rides spilt out onto the football field. They had just past the haunted house and were headed in my direction. They spotted me and I smiled in acknowledgement at their smiling and laughing faces. Suddenly a shiver overcame me,” No no no not now.” Taking deep breaths I tried to relax because I knew there was no way of fighting a vision, feeling the shiver creep up my spine an seep into my chest, solidifying then burst like a soap bubble. I held onto the tent flap as a flood of images hit me.
Someone was going to die!
As I came around I noticed I was placed on a pile of pillows in the back of the tent with a trio of worried faces staring at me. "How long was I out ?" "Only about five minutes this time" Alex replied with worry shining in his green eyes.Careful of how i turned my head , I looked at the twins "how are you guys holding up?" Maya and Willow gave each other a look that spoke volumes, but it was willow who spoke much to my surprise"I don't think we will ever get used to seeing that happen, what kind was it?"
