Four

" Hey guys you know what? I quit."

You ran out of the lab, trying to get rid of the tears that's falling out continually from your eyes. You kept running, trying to find an empty space, you don't want anyone to see you crying.

You saw an opened classroom door through your blurry eyes. Since it's already home time, you thought the room will be empty, so you rushed inside, sat on the spot in the corner, and covered your face with your hands.

Your mind went blank, and flashbacks started playing, it's the scenes of your five years old birthday...

It's been a month since the last time your dad spoke to you, and the last thing that he said was " SHUT UP! DAMN GIRL!" That was actually a shout. Your parents hated you from the moment they found out that you're a girl. They thought girls are useless, and taking care of a girl is a waste of time, money, and everything.

You always tried to get their attention, but nothing ever worked. They spent almost all of the time taking care of your brother, who you hated the most. He stole all of the love from your life. And you hated yourself. Because of him, no one ever praised you, all the people did was praise your brother, and punch you in your face, until now you don't know why did they do that.

Today it's your birthday, you expected for nothing. And you actually liked nothing, because nothing is always the most peaceful situation.

But this day is different.

Your brother gave you a birthday present, it's the first time for you to get a gift, specially from one of your family member. Even if it's just a piece of paper... And the paper ruined your life.

"Wanna get some attention?" That's the first sentence in the note, which totally caught your attention." You'll just have to do the following steps..." You followed the steps. What you saw next was fire, and a lot of people. But some are missing--- your family members...

" Something big and attractive always get people's attention..."

You went to your father's room after checking that he not here. Soon you started searching for something from the shelves.

" You have to make it big enough to make sure that everyone sees it..."

You finally found the stuff you're looking for, a small rectangle box.
You took a even smaller stick out of it, and rubbed it against one side of the box.

"There's no need to worry about mom or dad, since it's you birthday, you can do anything as you wish..."

An attractive, bright thing appeared on the top of the stick. You can't get your sight off it, it's really beautiful.

" ATHENA!!! IF YOU DON'T APPEAR IN FRONT OF ME RIGHT NOW, I'll GO GET YOU!!!"

Your mom shouted to you suddenly. You were frightened as she spoke the words " I'll go get you". The bright thing fell off from your little hand. Fire creeped over the floor, coming towards you.

You screamed and rushed downstairs. You tried to tell your mom about the fire, but she didn't listen. She kept shouting at you about how dumb you are, and what should you learn from your brother. That's what she did to you everyday, and you're tired of that.

You saw the flames crawling down the stairs, you begged your mom to leave here with you, but she's still not listing. The fire is coming closer, you shouted at her, saying that both of you should leave here now. She slapped your face in anger, and that hurts, that really hurts. You cried in pain and heard her screaming. You realized that the fire has reached your mother. You ran out to get water from the well. But everything has changed after you ran back...

The house was set in fire, you can't even find the door. You could hear your mom screaming in pain, but there's nothing you can do. You spilled the water on the house, but that did nothing. All you can do was to stand there, and watch your home burn.

People started to come over. They worked together and the fire was extinguished. But to you, it's not over yet. You couldn't find you dad and your brother. You asked the people who hepled to get water if they saw anyone that looks like them. But no one sees your dad. You don't know what to do. So you sat down and started to cry.

I killed my mom...
I can never forgive myself...
Forever...

You thought that as you cried. Just then you heard the laughter of your brother and his friends. You saw him staring at the house, speechless. Then he turned to you, shouted, " Athena?! What have you done?!" He and his friends started to laugh out badly after that. Anger began to grow bigger and bigger inside your heart, you just can't take it anymore. All they want to do is to laugh at you, and the whole thing was a prank, they just wanted to insult you for whatever you've done.

You growled and ran towards him. Pushed him on the ground and started to scratch on his face. He screamed in pain and punched you back hardly on your stomach. You coughed badly and tasted blood in your mouth. But you didn't care, all you wanted to do is to beat him.

You ran after him for a while, but soon you fell into darkness.

What you saw after you woke up is your new room, new family, and he disappeared in your life. You almost forgot his look, but you'll never forget the feelings on that day, the hate...

Someone tapped your shoulder, you ignored that. You don't want anyone to see you crying." It's ok," the voice said," it's me, Saffron."" Just leave me alone." You don't want to be rude, but you can't really controll your emotions after remembering the bad memories. You heard her sitting down on a chair next to you, and you know that she's waiting for you to calm down. There is no way for her to leave now, unless I tell her what's going on. You thought that as you decided to tell her everything. What you've planned is to let her understand why you just can't face your brother. You're tired of hating people now, and you don't want to hurt anyone. Maybe they'll stop begging you to stay.

You told Saffron everything about you and Scott. She listened quietly, being patient to let you finish.

Then she begins talking,"I'm so sorry to hear that, Athena. But you know what? I know it's hard for you to face your brother. And that's why we didn't tell you he's in our club at the beginning. We don't want to hurt your feelings.

And maybe you thought that we have nothing to do with you. But do you really want to trap yourself in the shadows of the past? If there's a chance for you to understand him, you'll find out that things had already changed. I believe that there is a huge misunderstanding. And you can just try to clear the air between you two.

I don't want to force you to stay in the club, because that doesn't mean anything. All I want to tell you is that, remember, always forgive, but never forget. Forgive him, and yourself. Trust me, the one who forgives is always the strongest."

"I... I don't know." You said, doubtful," I can't even trust myself."" But I trust you." She said that firmly. You looked down on your knees, didn't know what to say." Just tell me if you need to chat, I'll be there right away." She said that with the smile you've seen from the fist time you met her, and that sort of eased your mood." Thanks," you said, "I will."

Ok anyways I know the story is a bit not about detective, but I'll try to add more of them in the new chapters! I'll just talk about the family stuff first and then the detective stuff. Sorry!
