Personally, I'd never been afraid of what I didn't know. You can happily blame this on whatever you want to, but I know that my courage was due to Leon Coldmen. Leon Coldmen was my best friend, and my only friend, since I was six.
Secretly, I'd always known that Leon was different.
When I was seven, he came to school with blood tinged on his teeth. When I was thirteen, he had claw marks on his neck. I saw these signs, but never questioned him. He was my only friend and whatever he was was alright with me.
At school, we were exiled. No one talked to us, no one looked at us. For a while, we thought we were invisible. But every time we'd get comfortable in our own world, someone would walk by and whisper:
" Stay away from him, he's evil." Or maybe they would say," Stay away from her, she might be too."
But their words didn't hurt us much, we had each other. I'll admit there were bad times. Times when Leon scared me, times when he didn't trust me. But thinking back on it all, I think finding out who he was was truly the best part.
Leon was truly my mystery. But the hardest puzzle was figuring out how to keep him.
