Half of my first day was already over. Time felt like it was flying. Third period had ended and the lunch bell rang, I knew I had to meet Ms. Pool at her office for the second part of my schedule, I didn't even know what lunch I was supposed to attend.
As I walked down the hall towards the stairs, I could feel the glares from some of the students. I didn't understand why so many of them stared, I wasn't different. Simple, girly, social, happy. I didn't know what their problems were, but it didn't bother me to much. I walked down to the office and walked in seeing Ms. Pool sitting at her desk, "Hi Ms. Pool, is my schedule finished now?"
"Oh Kassie,", she stands to speak as I wait for her response, "I have put it together for you, I hope you've enjoyed your day so far."
"It's been great, love being here." Flashes her a grin.
"Good, I'm glad. Listen, I forgot to mention to you that I put together a list of student's names who are...well, you know what I mean." She hands me my schedule and the other list as I reach for it, my smile already faded away. I knew what she meant. Everyone did. It wasn't a secret anymore, times were different and everyone understood. They were just like us, except for their appetites, their laws, and their anatomy. Vampires. Vampires were among us and we knew about it.
"Thanks Ms. Pool,", I look down at my schedule to see what lunch I would have, "B lunch, great, glad I haven't missed it haha.", I let out a quiet laugh as she smiles down at me.
"Alright dear, if you have any other questions, let me know. Have a great rest of the day." I walked out of her office, folding my papers and shoving them into my pocket. Art class was my lunch period class. I wasn't very fond of art, since I wasn't very talented in the subject, but I preferred it over theater.
The halls were empty, everyone either being in class or at lunch, so it was easy to get back upstairs to my classroom. I walked in, everyone turning their heads as I walked over to the teacher, "Hey, I'm Kassie, the new girl."
"Hello, how are you? I'm Mrs. Bolinger, welcome."
"It's nice to meet you, is there a special seat I should take?", looks at her messy bun as it shakes alittle as she talks,
"Anywhere is okay, no assigned seats here. You sit, you stay.", she laughs alittle and looks back to her computer.
"Okay, thanks.", As I turn back to the class, I notice a couple of girls at a table chit chatting under their breathes, glancing at me every now and then. I sit down at a table, a mixture of genders. Introducing myself, I flash my white teeth as I smile to them.
"Hey Kassie, I'm Megan, where did you move from?""I'm from alittle town, Weatherford. Not far from here."
"Oh cool, Dustin here," she looked over to the boy sitting next to me and smiled, "he's from Azle, another small little town out that way haha." She smiled at me, her small lips thinning out. She was a pretty girl, short dark hair, glasses, freckles. very friendly.
"That's awesome, you like it here in Fort Worth?", I asked Dustin as he looked up from his book,
"It's alright, bigger than what I'm used to, but it's cool I guess. You likein it so far?"
"I have no problems with it haha.", I say with a giggle. They laugh alittle as Megan looks at the clock, "Only a minute or two for lunch. Yay. Haha."
"Well that's quick."
"Yeah, this class doesn't last long anyways. It's why it's my favorite."
"Maybe I'll end up liking it too then haha." The bell rings and everyone jumps up and rolls out of the door as I stand and walk out behind the class. I didn't know where I was going or who I'd sit with, so I followed the group as they all rushed into the cafeteria. I waited at a table until everything settled alittle, people sat, got in the lunch lines, headed for the microwaves. I got up and looked around alittle, trying to spot Megan or Dustin in the group. No such luck. I guess I'd be sitting alone on the first day. I headed up to the line and stepped behind a group of girls to wait my turn. I stood with my back to the huge cafeteria and watched the line move as I felt a soft touch on the back of my arm, "Hey Kassie."
His voice flew through my ears like the chorus to your favorite song, or the sound of your favorite bag of chips being opened. It went straight to my soul from my ears, and my heart sped up. I turned around, already knowing who it was, a smile appearing my my face, and saw his blue eyes starring down at me, "Hi Elijah."
