Isn't she pretty? This is Alexis, my best friend. Her parents died in a car crash when she was just 7 years old. She came to the orphanage when she was 8 though. Although she was a year older, we had this weird connection. Ya know, the kind you have with your siblings. She was super sweet and always carried around this teddy bear which she called Aiden, after he younger brother who drowned in a small lake when she was 6.  Aiden (the teddy bear), Alex, and I were best friends. I was a little more tomboyish of course, but tea parties were always fun with her. I didn't know her very well at first, in fact, I hated her. This is how we met:

I was walking out to the so-called "Living Room" when a case worker stopped me. I was furious but my heart was beating fast as fuck. Was I going to be taken to another foster home? The lady gave me a big fake smile and scooted me to the bench on the outside of the kitchen. I could see everyone else on the bench so I walked over and sat next to Sasha. The caseworker gave us a stupid thumbs up and ran over to the kitchen door, holding her clipboard with her right arm and opening it. She gave someone inside one of her signature faulty smiles and motioned her to come out. Great.

"A new kid? I thought this place reached capacity." I whispered to Sasha.

She shrugged as a skinny light brown haired girl walked out clutching a teddy bear for her dear life. Oh, brother, I thought, if that teddy bear was alive it would die instantly of suffocation. She received a few glares and I could understand why. A new kid meant less food and less attention, two important things in an orphans life. When she saw us looking at her, she looked down and, if possible, clutched her teddy bear tighter.

"This is Alexis Cabelle, she is new to this "home." I hope you treat her and accept her as family." the caseworker recited the all too familiar speech and then shook hands with Mrs. Abree and left. Everyone got up and left the bench, everyone except me. I wanted to know more about this girl because I was curious. She was pretty and she looked like that teddy bear meant a lot to her and I wanted to know why. I was always very shy so I slowly walked up to her and I could already see she had to be older. She was taller and look a little more mature like something real bad had happened to her.

"Hello," I whispered softly, "My name is Telula, but you can call me Lu or Lula, don't call me Tel though."

She looked down at me and kept her eyes narrowed. It seemed she was shy, or maybe she didn't want to talk. What if she was mute?

"H-Hi... My name is... well you know my name... Um, mind showing me around?" She hummed sweetly.

I nodded and showed her around. She touched almost everything which annoyed the fuck out of me. As we walked by, I earned glares from the other kids. What is their problem? I'm only showing the new kid around... But it made me furious, I didn't like that my friends were judging me because of her.

I clenched my fists and kept walking like a tourist, telling her about the places in the orphanage. It didn't take very long because of how small the orphanage was but I began glaring at her when she touched my bed.

"HEY! That's my bed! Don't touch it! You're gonna get Haziel mad at me!" I glare hard at her, the angry fire in my eyes piercing through her sweet, innocent ones.

She jumped and I could see her struggle to keep back the tears that were pooling in her eyes. Then I stopped and thought, "What if she thought I was going to be her friend? What if she felt left out and I just made it worse?" I was probably right. She ran to her bed, the one far off to the left corner, away from everyone else's. I felt like complete dog shit so I ran after her. She sat at the end of her bed and sobbed... I couldn't believe that I did that.

I walked over to her and apologized, telling her I was mad because I thought she was driving me away from my friends. I also told her we were the ones who cleaned the orphanage and to stop touching everything. Then, she laughed and she did something no one else had the courage to do. She asked me a question. Now, you may be thinking, "Oh wow, she asked you a question, big woop." But in the eyes of a 13-year-old, something like this would be deemed facepalm worthy. People my age, my age at this moment, wouldn't though. I mean, we're only kids, right?

"Can you be my friend? I've never had one of those. No one's ever been able to make me laugh and I guess the first person to make me laugh should be my friend right?" She looked at me with hopeful eyes and of course I accepted.

The others grew to accept her and then she told me her story.
