the pull

When I first looked at you standing across the room, I almost thought I was looking at myself.

For your eyes shone with that same light, your attention stolen by the littlest and most conventional form of joy.

When I looked at you,
I was pulled towards you.
My heart floated like a bright red balloon and for once I knew what I had to do.

Like a child,
I rushed in your direction
and greeted you with a smile that you give a friend.

You looked puzzled,
and then laughed.
And just like that,
we talked for hours.

We talked until it got late,
until it was the time to finally say goodbye.
I watched your silhouette fade into the dark, I watched the stars shine brighter tonight.

I do not know if I'll see your face again, I don't know how or whether the roads will turn from here.
All I know is I'm a human and so are you and that it was a privilege to have my paths crossed with you.
