With only a minute left on the clock and the score at a close tie, Kise made a quick steal from one of the opponents - a tall and lanky fellow towering over him by a good 5 inches. Don't get me wrong, Kise was already tall. His opponent was just freakishly tall. Anxiety hovered just underneath my ribcage as I watched him dash through the court, dodging large sweaty bodies with such agility all the while keeping his dribbling at a steady but nimble rhythm.
I watched nervously as his opponents tried to steal the ball away from him but alas he was too quick for them. I smiled. A surge of pride ran through my body. That was my boyfriend out there - star player of his basketball team.
"Ryouta!" I yelled as he ran towards the other end of the court. I wasn't quite sure he'd hear me amidst the cheers and frantic yelling of the crowd. After all, I was just another measly voice on the bleachers. I didn't care though, I came here to cheer him on and that I am going to do. I screamed his name one last time, a bit louder this time, just a fraction of a second before he stopped right behind the three point line.
There was a pause. A pause between he and I that almost felt like an eternity. I watched him carefully as he dribbled the ball up and down underneath his steady palm with full concentration. He readied himself for the shot. Only 10 seconds left as he positioned to make a shot. Right before shooting the ball into the net, the corners of his mouth twitched upward into a small smile. And with that, I knew he had heard me.
In one swift movement, he inhaled and took the shot. Everyone in the crowd was on the edge of their seats. This would be the game determiner. This shot would decide whether the game was a victory or a tie. I closed my eyes, anticipating the conclusion of this match.
Swish.
The crowd went berserk. They cheered and yelled and jumped about. He did it. Kise made the shot. I slowly opened my eyes, fully expecting to see Kise being carried off somewhere by his teammates in some celebratory manner. He wasn't anywhere in sight. I quickly scanned the court, only to lock eyes with him as walked towards me with a cute boyish smile plastered on his face as if to say, I did it, huh. Yeah you did. Dork.
His teammates were congratulating him as he passed by, hooting and ruffling his hair, only making him look sexier. And he was already post-game sexy. No, he was sexy to begin with. He paid no attention to them or to the crowd as he walked to me mouthing words I love you.
My heart fluttered and heat rose to my cheeks. He was now only a few inches in front of me. "That game was for you, beautiful." Kise planted a soft kiss on my forehead and pulled me into a gentle hug. At this point, I didn't care about the crowd or anyone else in the court, for that matter. I grabbed him by the neck of his jersey and pulled him down to my lips. I kissed him with all the passion I could muster. I wanted him to know just how much I loved him and how perfect he was and how lucky I was that he was mine.
