I'm not one for flamboyant
displays of emotion, outburst of affection.
I've never believed myself
able to piece back together
a shattered heart-
the jagged edges,
the blunt blunt corners. That summer night,
five miles down a dirt road,
steamed windows,
my head on your chest,
the faltering rhythm
of a racing heart."Only fools dive in."
Now the words I long to say,
locked within the narrow cages
of fear and regret. Then your head in my lap,
smile across your tired face,
sweat damped hair.I should've told you,
I can't help falling.
Those edges held me captive
in that darkness;
the complicated corners of love
kept me prisoner
on that summer night.
