Ten years ago

The wide-eyed little girl stared longingly into the nights sky. She counted the stars that inhibited the infinite blackness groaning and scrunching her nose in frustration whenever she lost count.

"It's impossible to count them all!"

The young McFarlane girl would exclaim loudly whenever her patience ran thin. Despite her young age Lacy had always wondered what it would be like to be among the stars, shimmering and shining brightly, guiding lost souls to their final destination. Glistening blue eyes wandered towards the orb of pure white that dominated the nights sky in pure wonder and excitement. She wished someday she would be there watching the world from a new perspective.

She smiled slightly before letting out a loud yawn, falling off the ledge she was perched on slightly. It was getting far too late for the six year old; so much so that even she accepted it was time for the night to become a memory awaiting her in the morning whenever she would wake. With a small sigh Lacy abandoned her parents room - which had been left empty - and made her way towards her smaller room.

A headache began to form at the back of the brunette child's head causing her to hiss in pain at its suddenly intensity. Falling to her knees she held onto the doorframe to stabilise her small body. Lacy let out a harrowing cry as the moonlight encased her fragile form.

The six year old girl wished for this pain to be over, for it to stop; it was only later when the pain brought her to the edge of unconsciousness did she realise this wasn't over any time soon - that was when her bones began to break. At first it was just minor bones in her toes and fingers causing the girl unwanted pain as they twisted and expanded, becoming more dog-like by the second. Lacy could handle that, what she could not handle was the excruciating pain caused by her femur and humerus snapping violently. With each fresh break came a blood curdling scream until the pain became too much for the young girl, allowing the darkness to consume her.

The next morning Lacy woke feeling groggy and sore, with no recollection of last nights events. Upon opening her eyes the grogginess evaporated. Her house had been completely trashed, furniture had been torn apart, bite marks appeared to be everywhere the eye could see, but at the centre where the small girl had collapsed was completely untouched.

Tears steamed down the young girls face in fear as she buried her head in her hands, only for them to be immediately retracted. She gasped at the sight before shaking them vigorously trying to rid them of what could only be described as the hands of a monster and in that moment her hands were not the only things she noticed; for her reflection on the black television screen did not stare back at her with emerald eyes, instead what she saw would change her life forever.

Glowing yellow irises now formed a fluorescent moat around her onyx pupils.
